Tough day with the river rising over 2m overnight. Managed to find a couple of swims which were still fishable half way down the stretch. Lost a couple of chub early on to paste baits - the water level was so high there were sunken bushes we couldn’t see. After moving further downstream we found some barbel and had 3 takes, landing 2 both around 7lbs - again to paste & feeder. Take care with the track - we were ok as we have a 4x4 but anything less and you would get stuck. A great day, hard work but look forward to coming back.

With the Ross gauge showing 3.35m, I arrived soon after lunch with low expectations. I have never seen the river so high and turbid, but I walked the bank and found two or three swims that seemed just about fishable. It turned out to be a very good session with nine barbel coming to the net, most in the last couple of hours of daylight. All on feeder and pellet and nearly all in the 5 - 7lbs range. Never say die!

River up, rising and coloured but perfect conditions. A lovely beat. Decided to walk down after reading previous reports of difficulty getting back up in a car. Walk back up hill is hard work! Fish falling to pellet and meat, and some of the best barbel caught from the Wye. Will be back in summer.
