Tried french and czech nymphing without success, no fish showing and little fly life. Water a good height and weather overcast so no excuses, just one of those days! Lovely stretch of river, will certainly give a go again in the spring.
Stayed at Caer Beris which was excellent again as usual!

Greeted by a frosty and foggy morning river looked in great condition after the recent floods. Found the chub halfway down the stretch tight to the bank. All fish caught on meat and straight lead tactics.

On advice from Colin we fished below the island as the river was still up. Had great views of fiddlers elbow and birdlife. Also found some slacker water. Best barbel was on little 8mm pellet and lead, 6lb 8oz. Smaller ones on the feeder and boilie. Quite a few pike active. Fished backed off during the day downstream under trees. Final swim before gate became most productive. Nice beat will be back in the summer!

Having watched the gauges dropping after the heavy flooding I decided I had to head out. I took the advice of from the reports online and headed to the upper beats and to this one. It’s one I hadn’t fished before but I was please to find a crystal clear river at what appeared to be a good level.

Fantastic looking water with a mixture of riffles, long glides and some deep pools. Tried lots of different flies throughout the day both nymphs and dries but sadly only had the one take which produced a 3/4 lb grayling to the net.

I’m sure there are many more fish in there but I just hadn’t figured it out. Great beat for the money and would highly recommend. Beautiful countryside, easy wading on the upper section (I didn’t fish the bottom section). Might well be back.

Having fished the beat in the summer and only had chub, wanted to go back for a barbel. River was challenging, 1.8mtrs on the Ross gauge, only a couple of swims fishable on the inside, all quite boily, found a reasonable glide behind the large fallen tree in the lower field. Ended up with 2 barbel about 6lbs on large pellet and meat. Was an enjoyable day in the sun sat out of the cold wind.
