Fishing:Winter Grayling
No. of Anglers:1
Trotting red maggots, using a centre pin reel - great fun. The hut at the halfway mark is a gem - thanks to whoever keeps that shipshape. One of the trout was a large 18” clonker. It had really unusual markings unlike the usual brown trout that are caught here. Pale, wavy vertical patterns along flanks and back. Very beautiful healthy fish. 9" - 12" Grayling picked up through most runs throughout the day - good sport, all fish returned. Although I was fine when leaving this time, I would be against parking at the middle area, down a short track to a small turning area, without a 4 x 4.

Didn't spot one rise in the sunless conditions but no excuses, I simply couldn't work things out today. Just one OOS nymph caught trout to report but more importantly, fom my point of view, a very pleasant day wandering around one of my favourite places to be.

Area:Taff
Beat:Fiddlers Elbow to Abercynon (Taff Bargoed AA)
No. of Anglers:1
Lunch time fishing for an hour, dropped into the river via the grounds of St Thomas Church, Abercynon. Parking on the side streets nearby. Fished from the river Cynon junction to just above the road bridge, only 100 yards or so. Had around a dozen grayling, lots of shots but also a good few fish between 11 and 13 inches. All to a pink shrimp fished on a mono ‘Euro nymph’ set up. This beat has a lot of grayling present, which can be found to the top boundary of the beat, which is as far upstream as they are present in the Taff. The wading here is quite tricky, so a wading staff might come in handy.

A peaceful day trotting red maggots on a split cane rod. Running fast in places but clear. Recent floods have changed the river landscape, trees gone, banks undercut, and pebble shores moved. A lot of bankside vegetation had been flattened by the spates which made access easier. Fish caught all over the best. Virtually no wind which meant very few leaves. A perfect day, thanks WUF

Can't quite believe the nice weather I'm getting this week, perfect conditions here ( 0.5 ddol gauge) one of my favourites beats but not the easiest to fish but at this level it's whole lot better. Only fished the bottom beat today but strangely the top and bottom pools didn't fish well at all? ( only 1 fish from each) all fish caught euro nymping and had grayling to 16" ( no tiny ones) and trout to 14" again all a good size.
