Tough day fishing in and below the wood, possibly hampered by the slightly colder weather and success on this beat the previous day. Beautiful, nonetheless.

Nice beat. When we booked I hadn't realised that this is actually the opposite bank of the Upper Holme Lacey beat!

Most of the fishing is on the near bank, which makes for comfortable fishing when the river has a bit of water on. Access is good, although expect the usual steep banks. The one downside being the car entrance via the gate off the Holme Lacy road. Cars fly down the hill and I was really glad that I was fishing with a friend as he could check the way was clear before driving out.

Fishing was a bit slow, we expected more water to be honest, but a very enjoyable day nonetheless.

Had the stretch to myself which was wonderful. Fantastic venue and really enjoyed the day wondering the banks. Plenty of swims and a variety of water to go at. Only a few feet deep at the top end and gradually gets deeper as you go downstream. Big slack in the bottom peg, very big. Looked pikey. Had 3 barbel - 2 in the morning (9lb and 5lb) and one late afternoon (8lb). Nothing much from late morning to late afternoon aside from a couple of chublets despite trying 8 or 10 swims. Not sure if it's a regular thing, having been only this time, but there was a lot of"goings-on" on the bank opposite - a mini excavator worked on the opposite bank/track most of the day, cars and a Kawasaki Mule vehicle drove up and down regularly. However didn't spoil the enjoyment (although did take the edge off a bit as I love my peace and quiet). Will be returning for sure.

Fished weighted nymphs from 1pm ‘til shortly after 5. A decent sized trout in the first few casts was followed by nothing at all for two hours before four grayling, three of which were ‘babies’. Water very clear and at a nice level for fishing.

A blank today, no sign of fish above or below. Did hook one Grayling but lost it due to fishing barbless, well that’s my excuse.
