Three trout between 10 and 14", which all came in about a one hour window in the early afternoon, while some mayflies were hatching. All returned as usual. Thought the mayflies were march browns at first but in fact LDOs I think - fish refused march brown dry/emerger patterns, but I then got all my takes on an Imperial. River totally dead either side of the hatch though. the fish only turned on when a hatch was underway. Lovely to be out on the river again and catching on dries - thanks again!

A hard day at the office, no bits or fish on the feeder, one chub and two dace on the stick float, that's it until the start of the new season.

The reports from the weekend suggested a good day lay ahead and my hopes were raised further when my thermometer returned a reading of 9.6 degrees. The flow was still good and the river had a green tinge. We started down the bottom on GB feeders and in the first 2 and a half hours had 2 barbel and 3 chub each. It then slowed to a halt for 2 hours before the old trick of starting to put my stuff away in prep for a move produced my biggest fish of the day at 8.12.
Moved up the top at 1400 where Gordie added 3 barbel and me one. So after not having had a barbel in 3 Wye trips Gordie had 5, one more than me. Back tomorrow with 3 other mates.....

A really fantastic beat. No surprise why it is booked most of the time! A bit cold in the morning. We feared a slow day but we were catching fish between 8 and 2pm. The surprise was that the fishing stopped after 2pm which was the warmest part of the day. All fish caught on meat and pellets.

3 Barbel, 19 Chub
