One grayling caught on a PTN euronymphing.
The river level is very low at the moment, probably too low to fish with much hope of success (certainly for someone with my level of ability). There was a brief hatch of March Browns at midday, but not enough to generate any surface feeding.
Two things to note: there is a green van blocking the designated parking space by the sawmill. When I was leaving someone from the sawmill came up to me and said the van is broken down and to park on the grass further down the drive to avoid having my car scraped. The area of grass is not big enough to stop a car blocking part of the drive to the house so this doesn't feel like the best idea for peace and goodwill with the homeowner.
The second point to note is that the metal gate to the field as you leave the car park to go down to the river is held together with baler twine - literally. The gate hinges are attached to a fence post which is completely freestanding so when you undo the knot in the baler twine to open the gate it will collapse. Whatever you do don't try to climb over the gate, and be prepared to grab hold of it when you've undone the knot or it will end up on the floor.

Again, not easy. Another cold day. And again, the Edw in early Spring - or late Winter - shows itself to be a very different prospect from Summer’s relatively easy pickings. I worked slowly up from the bridge trying to find slower blue water and fishing through with a small nymph. I finished with four including one handsome plump fish of a shade under a pound. I have to admit, in these conditions, at this time of year, I was quite pleased with myself.

Beautiful stretch of river. Crystal clear water with a good flow to it. Lots of flood and storm damage, which is probably great for the fish. Cold when the sun went in and a northerly wind kick up occasionally as the day went on. Only managed to fish for three hours, so I didn't get to explore the whole beat.
No fish seen, no splashes, no nothing! And more importantly no knocks, no takes, not a single sign that the fish were interested in what I was carefully placing in front of them! It's the first time that I have blanked in a long time, but it didn't really matter, it was nice to be out and in the water in this beautiful part of the country.
