Sunny day, light east wind, river low-ish and clear. There was a fair on-and-off hatch of mid olives (rather than March browns?) between 12 and 2pm, which produced quite a few rises. Caught 3 fish on the (dry) Jingler (14), the largest of which, 18 inches/2.5 lbs, was in a stream right under the far bank and very strong, jumping no less than six times. A bit of success with klink-and-dink (on a 14 PTN) after the hatch.

after a morning on the Longtown beat [ see report] got here just after lunch time , even hotter now , with in 50 yrds of starting saw a rise so put an olive over it second cast got it about 10" nice very lively fish then more olives than you could shake a stick at no more rises so after a good try went for the nymph not a nudge, knock ,nothing did not see another fish and left at 3pm the weather very very hot and once again needs some water to just colour the water just a bit.

It's been a few years since I last fished this beat. Some interesting changes with new growth blocking the odd pool and slightly changed flow opening up new bits.
A lovely sunny day but I think the water is still a touch cold at just under 7C. I saw a fish or two in each of the deep pools but couldn't tempt them. A handful of small rises in a couple of shallow stretches but from very small fish.

Blazing sunshine, warmer (got up to 17 degrees) but a persistent downstream wind. The river is very low and gin clear. I tried a couple of spiders with a small orange-collared gold head PTN on the point. But unlike yesterday ( maybe due the helpful cloud cover then?) it was hard work. A very quick hatch of LDOs was over almost as soon as it started and despite quickly changing to my dry rod, I only raised one fish (which didn’t stick) and then they stopped. But 40 mins later a better hatch started which lasted about half an hour or so. It’s wonderful when on a sunny spring day you are knee deep in a run and fish are rising all around you, one even under my rod. I covered them again and again but they just chose the natural six inches to the side… I tried the spiders again and caught a feisty half pounder on the PTN. Thinking the hatch over I was contemplating my pork pie when I realised it was actually still going. And in some surprisingly skinny and bobbly water, I took a much better fish of about 1.5 lb on an upstream LDO dry. Magic! The sand martins were very busy on the mud banks and (famous last words) it feels like we have seen the back of winter. Spring trouting on the Usk. Not much better than that. Thank you WUF!

Intended to practise my Spey casting but left reel at home so simply fished for trout. I fished the flats and caught zero trout. My wife fished the fast water and caught 10!!!

Two good fish to near 3lb, and two smaller.
All taken on PTN in the faster water. Excellent hatch at 1230 for about 40 mins, not interested in my offerings though.
