River slightly high and coloured when we arrived, say a couple of fish early on but not takers. Heavy rain all morning and river level increased quickly, by lunchtime it was in full spate and not fishable. That’s it for this year, roll on March. Thanks to Foundation for support all year.

Beat:Bideford Brook
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
An unusual morning. Heavy rain just before dawn such that, feeling somewhat tired and lazy, I was minded to stay in bed. I decided to fish the Bideford Brook anyway and despite low water after this long drought was pleased to find a lot of fly hatching - olives, pale wateries and some sedges - and fish rising to a dry fly. They were better fish than usual too, including a 12 incher which isn't quite unknown here, but is a good one for this little stream. Before I reached the top It all came to an end with a sudden rush of muddy flood water from the Forest upstream which made me get out promptly. 9 x trout 9-12 inches, Rusty Klinkhammer
