1 x trout 16 inches, Dark Moorgame spider. Pouring with rain - which was not what Metcheck predicted - and the lower river really too high for trout fishing. No hatches at all.

We were greeted by a full river but thankfully clear.
Morning session produced 1 fish for John but only a pull for me. Around 1 pm large dark olives started to hatch which bought many trout to the surface. I caught a couple of nice fish up to a pound but covered many and found them hard to tempt. March Brown spider and and iron blue were the successful flies. In hindsight I think the may have been taking the emerging fly as didn't see any Duns being taken. The hatch petered out about 2.30 and that was it for the day. I had previously tried French Nymphing to no avail , I'm determined to break my duck on this method but no joy yet.
John persevered with nymphs but had one of those days when he was broken 3 times.
It was wonderful to be back on the river in typical spring conditions and casting to rising fish always gets me going, being successful with a home tied fly was the icing on the cake. Thanks so much WUF.

Covered the deeper water with Tube fly and Spinner but again, no sign of any salmon. Had two trout on a SHFC, one a solid 17’’ fish from Ty Mawr. It was surprising to take a number of good size Grayling though ,which have seemed to be absent for some time. There were no shots amongst them and three were around the 15-17’’ mark, mostly caught on assorted bead head nymphs in front of the hut. All fish returned.
The river has certainly fallen quickly over the last 48 hours.

Weather overcast with drizzle the afternoon, river was fast flowing and care was needed wading. Fished on spiders all day. Mid afternoon river came alive for maybe 10 minutes then switch off ,a few missed opportunities best caught 3/4 lbs enjoyable day.
