River very low and clear, just a few rises to the odd March Brown(?), and I'm afraid the fish outwitted me

Beat:Colonel's Water
Fishing:Trout (River)

Water low and clear sky to start. Most activity I’ve seen on this beat mainly by the Cledan and the cliffs. Numerous rises and knocks on dries but failed to connect. An evil downstream wind turned the air blue around lunchtime and failed to disappear for a few hours despite a power nap. Such a peaceful beat.

Fishing with a team of spiders hooked up on first cast with a fish that made off with two of my three flies, then hooked a decent trout, that didn’t come to the net because it was in fact a small fry that I’d hooked, which was in the mouth of the bigger fish who let go when he saw the net. Outside of the faster water my flies and leader we’re constantly picking up green algae from the water. Caught a couple of decent grayling on the spiders, and a few small trout on the dry fly.

Caught 1 small 4” trout on a nymph and had a few bites from a deeper pool about 1/2 way up the beat, the water was muddied slightly here from cattle drinking at the top of the beat. Warm day. Difficult casting with trees overhanging all the way up. I only fished for a couple of hours from midday so wasn’t really expecting to catch.
