First time on this section having fished the one at Aberedw a fair few times.
A slow but enjoyable 4hours. I can see why many anglers hold this beat in high regard with its classic freestone stream structure and easy wading.
It also looks like there has been some careful riverside habitat work over the winter. Very nice.
Very little happening insect wise or fish wise. They started to feed a bit for the last 30 mins or so of the session, about 15:30, then all fish came to a grey Gammarus pattern fished hard on the bottom and within a few inches of structure.

4 Trout

Turned up and struggled to find the access as I forgot my OS map. Managed to land 5 nice trout largest about 10" but also managed NOT to land about 15 more. They don't half jump and splash about. Couple on the dry but most to a pink beaded hares ear, fished through the tails of the pools. 6' 2 wt rod. Strangely some of the pools that I though may have held fish didn't.

Overall a great adventure!

Couple of hours spent on the Edw to close the season. 6 wbt caught on Adams para, all returned, best 10".

After a false start on Usk Tower beat with a friend who has a rod (+ guest) there, we moved catchments for less water. Whole of Hergest fished from about 1pm and did not disappoint. All fish caught on dry and as usual late in the season the fish were generally a plump 10" and fighting fit.

Shared a rod with my son and despite torrential rain showers and strong gusty wind and low water levels spent a great afternoon with half a dozen wbt including two at 10 & 11 inches landed and released. Plenty of flylife- caddis and small olives even in the rain with plenty of rising fish in the deeper spots refusing elk hair sedge flies but immediately taking a para adams. Cowgates halfway up the beat in a serious state of disrepair but no sign of animal induced erosion as bank side fences either side are all intact and of good quality. Lots of leaf litter in the river more due to storms than autumn but it won't be long.

River is very low. Trout are located in the deep pools. All trout caught on nymphs.

Access to the water very difficult and overgrown.

Cool day, river low and clear - has the recent rain not fallen on the Edw catchment? Occasional flies hatching, and some trout rising. Very wary though, eventually landed 4 ,to 12", but missed many more. On small grey and olive paras.

Did not fish. Edw very low on water.
