At 0.54m on the Erwood gauge, the river was probably too low for salmon fishing. The lift from rain a couple of weeks ago has all but passed through and the water didn’t really have enough push to swing a salmon fly satisfactorily. It’s great that the owner has employed a bank maintenance guy to improve the access and reduce erosion towards the top end of the beat. Hope he can push all the way through and extend a clear path up to Abernant stream. Beautiful location and it was nice to see kingfishers and dippers.

Sorry for the late return.
Cool one degree start to a lovely September day. Downstream wind in the middle of the day a bit of a pain but did not spoil a great day on a quality beat.
Only two trout but more than compensated for by the grayling. Most coming to spiders during the morning and afternoon. Two on dries late morning before the wind pitched in, only one fish to the French leader.
Was about leave just after 5pm when I bumped into the owners. Was given some totally selfless help from Shaun that resulted in another 7 grayling all to dries as the day faded.
2 Trout, 16 Grayling

A chilly northerly wind kept the fish down so fished a pair of wet flies. All caught on the point fly a Bibio hopper fished wet.
