No joy on this occasion. Strong winds and intermittent horizontal rain and lake surface very choppy throughout. Thought it was not going to be my day when 4 wild swimmers turned up, swam the length of the lake, talking very loudly for over an hour - it seems to be a regular weekly trip for them. Not that I am using that as an excuse for no bites and no fish!

River came up 1.5m over night. Managed a few hours before giving up. Too much debris and cold water overnight resulted in a blank for both.
Nice stretch, will be back when river is not so angry.

Well what a difference a day makes. Lovely chat between the four angling parties in our hotel fishing a variety of WUF stretches. I didn't think much rain fell yesterday at all but it presumably had up in the hills as one eagle eyed chap checking the levels alerted us to a massive spike upstream at Mordiford coming our way. 0.27 at breakfast turned into 0.44 by the time we got to river. Whole trees started coming down river and it rose to 1.5m by the time we left. So much weed and leaves coming through meant frequent de-weeding and short casts but in between, barbel fed in three of our swims. Bites again were slight, double taps instead of the single ones from leaves or slightly longer lifts than it just being moved by the weed. These may have turned into big pulls but striking 'in case' produced well hooked fish. 6 (top end), 4 and 3 barbel (bottom end) with one chub to the other angler so again not a complete day but for 3 of the 4 a great return in challenging conditions. Biggest barbel 8.06. Thanks to Stefan for convincing PJ to stay where he was as he had 3 barbel in the afternoon.
River now at .91 so the guys fishing today from our hotel should have it sock on!

River fast and coloured although started to drop in the afternoon. We fished hard in difficult circumstances without much reward, lost a Barbel late on when conditions improved.

Riover had risen 1.1m overnight, so we arrived to a whirlpool of muddy water. By mid afternoon the river had fallen 60cm and we managed to pull 4 chub out from beat 2.

Got there to find the river up and access not possible to any section bar the steps at the top which I am not sure are part of the beat anyway. A fallen tree is still blocking the main path and the rest is very overgrown and difficult to get through, even without carrying fishing gear. Tried to run a float down from the steps but all the time thinking that is was a completed waste of time and effort and gave up. I spent the rest of the day visiting a number of other beats upstream where people were fishing into the margins and catching despite the rise in water. Very disappointing that Wyebank is in such a state.
