My first time fishing Lyepole and I wasn't disappointed. A lovely venue, beautiful river and stunning surroundings. The hills protected me from the biting Northerly and it was pleasant all day. The river was very low and crystal clear so all the Grayling were shoaled up in the deeper pools above and below the bridge. I caught consistently through the day mainly on trotted bluebottle emergers but as I had taken my Nymphing rod I gave it a go after lunch and had a few smaller Grayling Czech Nymphing. I ended up with 23 Grayling from ounces to a pound plus averaging around the 12 ounce mark. The only company I had all day were the Dippers and Robins, just perfect.

Very cold and windy. Went for pike - tried a number of likely looking spots along the stretch. One bite but didn't land (pike threw the hooks).

We had booked 2 days at Cefnllysgwynne, river painfully low, found 4 fishable pools after covering full length of beat.
Managed one tiny Grayling and 4 out of season brownies from one pool midway along the beat.
Gin clear water but no chub sightings despite walking whole length with Polaroids.
Didn’t fish Cefnllysgwynne on the second day, moved onto the Wye where despite low levels managed to find some fine Grayling.
Stayed in the estate cottage which was great.

New venue this one for me. Really lovely place to be. Struggled early on to locate any fish. Wind on water made it difficult to read swims. Weather was glorious for February though with lots of sunshine. Finally found some good fish with biggest Barbel at 7lb. Thoroughly enjoyable day out on the Wye.
