Yellow may dries got the most takes. The wild brown landed was a feisty one. The few rising trout seemed to stick tightly to their spots. Abundant and varied hatches throughout the day. It was great to chat to a fellow angler and compare notes.

What a beautiful location to visit. The river was low and clear with bright sunshine and a strong breeze. While we saw plenty of rising fish, they were not consistent and proved hard to tempt. There was abundant fly life with stonefly and mayfly hatching plus a host of other flies through the day though the trout didn't seem to be showing a preference for the mayfly. They also rarely took flies from the surface, preferring to take nymphs just below the surface. We managed two trout to a dry hare's ear and large dark olive. We consoled ourselves with the beautiful scenery and fantastic birdlife along the river. We saw herons, white egrets, sand martens, dunlin, kingfishers, three types of wagtails, dipper, cuckoo and a pair of buzzard. There were many other small birds in the woodland that we heard singing their hearts out but failed to identify.

Fished the morning and fabulous to be back. Hot but still very windy with an Easterly breeze. Tried to fish the Christmas tree bank but struggled to cast in the wind. Did have a couple of attempted grabs on my Coch-y-bonddu. Moved to the other side where casting was easier. After numerous rises and numerous misses, finally had one on the dropper (Diawl Bach) and one on the point (Coch-y-bonddu) at the same time - that was a first for me! Don’t know whether I hit a shoal or something about the wind rising but definitely strange. No other fish after that. Lots of daddy long legs about of course kites circling above. Fabulous morning!
