Various flies hatching. For Mark Oram of Devon 3 x trout 9 inches, 13 inches and 16.5 inches, on Parachute Adams, Grey Duster and Hare's Lug and Plover. Better than hoped for, given the low river and glaring hot sun.

Beautiful beat. Hot sunny day, water low and clear. Quite a bit of surface activity throughout the day (including sedges and mayflies). All 5 trout, which included two 16 inchers, were tempted on dry flies - cdc (sizes 14 to 18). All returned.

Hard day, possibly due to spawning or possibly because the lakewas really discoloured, due to work at lower end, only saw about 4 fish cruising just under the surface, quite surprising as we have fished here a number of times and usually have some lovely fish, will hopefully be back to try again.

Very sad to see the condition of the Usk. Last fished it 5 years ago and the water quality was prestine! What has happened to this lovely river? We know the answer and it is not just the lack of rain! Hope to return in better times.

Plenty of mayfly spinners in the evening, and the fish were rising to mayfly in the day. 14 fish caught on Grey Wulff and Bazz’s Mayfly.
