3 hooked and lost in a 2hr twilight session. Only fished the lower downstream portion of the beat, below the main pool that underlies the bridge. Plenty of nice setups. Wish I had longer to fish the whole beat :). Nymph (copper John) under dry (Caddis), all hooked on the nymph.

Struggled in the morning with bites hard to come by, but after some much appreciated advice from Stefan and a change of peg things picked up. Barbel from 4lb up to 7lb. Chub from 2.5lb up to 5lb. All fish caught on feeder and a mixture of pellets.
Beautiful location and great beat. Good access to swims and a very helpful bailiff.

Fishing:Trout (River)

We haven’t fished Cefnllysgwynne for nearly two years. It’s a challenging beat with plenty of walking but can be rewarding in the right conditions.
The owners had strinmed a clear path through bank side vegetation …. Many thanks! We always enjoy the beat and today was no exception. There were a few rising fish but as usual a well presented fly in the right place would pull an unseen fish up. The river was a foot up but clear which meant a good flow through deeper pools … always a recipe for increasing the likelihood of fish taking a fly.
All the brown trout were solid muscular strong fish … well they have been fighting floods all summer! The best to hand were 14” but two much better ones and a big grayling managed to throw the hook… c’est la peche! It’s hard not to strike too early when you see a midget submarine rising from the depths to take your fly.
We were exhausted but happy when we came off the river at dusk. Charles came out for a chat as we drove away …. Great to say hello again and thanks for asking, we had a great day. 17 fish on parachute dries and plenty of wild life … not home until midnight but it didn’t seem to matter, reality had been suspended by a wonderful day on the river….

All fish caught in fast water. Barbel are definitely on the gravels. One of the barbel went to 8.11. Mostly caught on Robin Red pellets. Nicely maintained fishery in most parts. 3 of the barbel came from the shallow fast water at the upstream end of the fishery.

Fished for an hour before giving up and booking onto another beat close by. Access is very poor with most swims difficult to fish (I’m in my 30’s and don’t mind a challenge). Lots of litter strewn all over the bank - I spent my hour of fishing surrounded by a broken fishing brolly, plastic bags and discarded beer cans. The car park is a small lay-by off a busy road - On returning to my car I noticed I’d parked next to a pile of human faeces. All in all the least WUF beat I have ever fished, and seems a little cheeky to charge over £20 for the ‘pleasure’ of fishing it.
