Found the river slightly up and coloured but fishable. Started at the bottom of the stretch and between 11am and 12pm witnessed a phenomenal hatch of sedge (grannom?) in one pool. The water came alive with several sizable fish taking the flies with reckless abandon but could I catch one? No. I drifted every sedge imitation in my box over their noses but not an offer. Other than that, I fished the whole stretch up and down and without a touch, nor did the other angler on the water that day. All in all a frustating day compensated by glorious sunshine and scenery.
WUF Note: Trout feed on the grannom emerger and usually ignore dry sedge flies.

Arrived at 9a.m. to find river steady at 0.85m on the gauge and carrying a slight tint-encouraging.Showery and windy enough to test this embryonic speycaster. No luck with 3 hrs on the 15 footer. An excellent hatch of LDOs ensued at midday, accompanied by more than a smattering of march browns(the most I have seen in years). A few grannom appeared at 2pm. A feeding frenzy it wasn't. Must have seen at least 2 trout rise and didn't get a touch! Time for the river to wake from it's long hibernation.

Caught one 1/2 pounder on an olive nymph (safely returned}Just a couple of grannom seen at 3pm. Lovely to be out after feeling stir crazy for the last month!

G and I fished from top through Woodstream. Water .67m and clear. Reasonable hatch at 12.30-2pm, mainly Olives but the occasional March Brown. Fished over a rising trout below log and fish took, tore off downstream and bust 3lb line. Took dark Olive. Persisted with dark olive above rock and hooked another around 1.5lb which came off before landing.
Weather fine and 8C.
No activity after 2.30pm. Fished till 4pm with no further takes.

River low and clear. Fished for salmon in the morning. No sign of any fish. Small hatch of March Browns in the afternoon sunshine encouraged me to have a try for trout, but to no avail. Pleasent day.

Blank. It's getting to seem quite normal to be fishing a pool in falling snow with the air temperature at 2 degrees. There's something to be said for a salmon day at the moment as the use of two hands keeps you that much warmer. No action, though a few hefty trout decided to bang into the tube fly while fishing down the Rock Pool. One was one of those silvery Usk trout which sometimes get mistaken for peal.

A very cold day, no higher than 5C. It started raining about 11:00am and didn't stop. We did see a few olives on the surface, but no sign of any fish at all! We called it a day about 15:00.

Nice bright day, light breeze, .65m, clear, small hatch of dark olive around 1pm, and the odd march brown. Fished 12pm - 4pm with no takes using 14/16 weighted nymph & waterhen bloa/partridge and orange on dropper. John did his usual masterclass and managed 1 trout to 6oz, otherwise nothing.
11th looks horrid, with 24mph wind, and freezing or below, so will feel like -6. May go if wind drops otherwise unlikely.
Nice to catch up with you Barry, see you soon.
