River was in good condition on the day we fished, and its was very good weather after a few very cold days that preceded it. We both used gold head nymph, but unfortunately caught no fish. No sign of fish on our day, we fished the length of the beat which had promising pools and channels. We stayed in an excellent air bnb in Leominster which was very close by.

Lot of water on the beat compared to my past visit. Fished the morning in the weir section but with no joy. Mid day moved up to a likelier series of bends and managed 6 grayling and 1 out of season brown trout. Largest of the grayling was pushing 2 lb. All fish were caught on ceramic nymphs and fished either czech or French. For a bit more regarding info with pics please see my blog at www.thetreetrout.co.uk

1 x grayling 6 inches. This turned out to be a miscalculation on my part. I booked the previous evening with the Eyton gauge showing 1ft 3ins, which I regard as about the upper limit for the Lugg. However, I didn't check again in the morning and when I arrived I found the river now up to 1ft 6 inches and strongly coloured - a sort of grey-brown instead of the usual grey-green and less than 6 inches visibility. I guess overnight rain in Radnorshire must have been to blame. Not a wash-off exactly and I tried some of the easier places for about 3 hours, but did no good except for one baby grayling. I gave it up at lunchtime. I am sure it will go back to fishing as well as usual once the colour clears up in a day or two.

Perfect 3 hours fishing. The weather was mild (12 degrees!) and the river, unusually for this time of year, was at a perfect height. All the fish fell to very small nymphs fished low in the water. No sign of shoaling grayling; each fish was from a different swim, but my day was limited to 3 hours so I did not get time to explore all of the beat.

Bright sunny day, frosty morning, 5 grayling up 6" taken on a holy grail, river was low slow and clear had a hatch between 2pm-3pm but rising in some very tricky spots, spooked a very large trout in shallow water. Plenty of dragonflys, wildlife about on this stretch; be back once we have had some rain

8 x grayling 10-12 inches, 4 x out of season trout, heavy nymphs. The poor old Lugg really does need some more water and it's currently very low and clear. Nothing of size taken today and it was really quite hard work, but were still some holes deep enough to plumb for a few hours. I like the new fencing scheme, also the willow pleaching, and it will be interesting to see how the bank grows up. Incidentally, I don't know why such a fuss is made about the wooded area upstream. This is the area where most (not all) of the large fish taken at Eyton over time have been found and well worth fishing through. You either roll under the fence just above the weir or go through the gate a little higher and simply work your way up the channel. There are just a couple of deep places where you need to get out on the bank for a few yards. All the plentiful woody debris is good fish territory. At the top of the fishing, go into the field on the right bank and follow the game-keeper's track (also a foot path) back down and you eventually wind up back at the footbridge. On this day the curious young steers in the main field didn't bother me, but they did manage to break through a fence into a field of fresh-planted winter wheat - chaos!

Very cold start to the morning. Approximately 20-25 grayling taken from the lower weir where it enters into the large pool largest around a lb and half. Managed to pick a couple more out further up the beat but water was very low and slow. All fish were caught czech nymphing

First time on the Lugg, hmm.. ? Low and slow, and the pools were full of debris. Access in the wooded areas is disappointing even though you have prior warning. A frustrating debut drew a blank and left us wondering regarding previous catch reports and what lay in store at Lypole on Sunday.
Oh, AB is demanding his tiny 3 incher be counted in the catch, I said that wouldn't really be right, I take it he was talking about the tiny grayling? The water was quite cold though !
