Quite difficult conditions with frequent showers of much needed rain but river very low. A fair amount of fly life hatching mostly bright yellow bodies. No luck with gold heads so switched to dry even though no rises. Had a few rises to a yellow dry and managed to hook one. Later had two on a small yellow emerger at top of beat. Watched otters playing for ten minutes fifteen yards from me and decided to leave it to the experts!

River low with a distinct brown tinge. Very few rises and just a trickle of flies coming off. 2 trout, 2lbs and 1lb, both returned. Dogs in the river and then, in mid-session, an inflable kayak came down the river. I politely explained that the Usk was not a navigable river. They professed ignorance.

The fish were taken on a nymph and a dry fly. Lovely stretch of river, but it has a lot of non-angling public pressure. (I have photos of the 2 characters in the kayak, if any use - let me know.

This beat has a great atmosphere. Unfortunately it was too hot, nothing happened, nothing seen.

Had a lovely fishing late evening... but didn't catch any trout, although they were raising.
But all in all a lovely experience – will be back for sure!

No fish caught

Because of the rainy week before, river Usk was still high and with strong flow.
We had some bites but couldn't land any fish – but we will be back!

Water level good if slightly coloured. 5 trout on nymphs.
