5 Brown Trout, on a size 16 olive pattern. Three of 12 inches+, 2 of 10 inches. All from the faster deeper pockets. Plenty of rising fish in the slower moving water but none were interested in the fly.

The sun was out and the water low and clear, fishing was difficult. Seen plenty of fish patrolling the river and lots rising. Had one take of a crane dry but the fish ripped it off. Failed to tempt any of the others.

Tough conditions, with very warm low water. Fished most of the beat. Some very small trout around but very wary and in no danger from me :)

Nothing caught, nothing seen.

15 WBT to Nymphs with only 7 making it to hand all returned safely, they weren't having it today and only caught where there was cover in fast water. Nothing from open fast water which has been productive in the past the low clear conditions definitely made it a difficult day. Started on 4lb tippet but dropped down to 2.5lb which seamed to make difference. All fish to Euro Nymph with a team of 2 small 3mm or a 3 and a 4mm bead when the wind picked up. Lost the 2 best fish of the day to hook pulls both 2lbers, managed one that would make 1lb. Fish were rising in the flats above pools but as soon as you got within casting range they disappeared. Saw a cormorant in the water near the top of the beat which might explain why the fish were so cagey although having spoke to anglers fishing on other rivers today they had similar results so possibly down to the weather which was changeable throughout the day and felt heavy. A lovely peaceful day on a beautiful beat, tiring day due to the wading difficulty over bedrock. Also found a large rubber lure of12 cm stuck around a rock with heavy braid just above the fishing hut on the opposite bank. Will be back later in the season.

7 Trout

Day cut short by nasty head injury sustained when I tripped going down the bank and a small tree that I grabbed for support snapped. Fortunately my wife was with me and got me to Brecon hospital. Very grateful for a good pair of sunglasses which survived the impact of my head with the bedrock and probably saved one eye. Other than that had some good sport with a DHE on the lower beat despite the heat and had just walked to the upper beat to get away from the many swimmers. Lovely beat which I hope to fish again in better circumstances.

River low and clear - managed to winkle out a few on the duo in faster runs; then some action, on the sedge, after about 9pm and into dark (fish up to 14")
