Two rods fishing from Box Bridge upstream. Conditions sunny, still and warm. Traditional fly rods used, plenty of fish seen, occasional rise although could not identify what they were taking as no obvious hatch. Fish up to eight inches seen but not interested in black gnats or mayfly type flies. One six inch trout caught on a green bobber and returned. We only fished the first 300 yards of the beat. There was a lot of fallen trees and debris caught on them.

Very hot spell of weather and the stream was on its bones. I am not a great fisherman but managed to rise three trout to dry flies, but had them spat out. Found the access challenging as had to climb a few barbed wire fences. All in all a lovely few hours in a beautiful setting with red kites overhead all day. I will be back!

Just a few hours, 2 wbt 6/8inches both on blonde Wulf. Tricky casting, lots of twists and turns in the lower section and getting quite a canopy. Pulled off before the upper stretch.

A perfect fishing day with light winds and 18 centigrade.
Fished French leader with spiders and weighted nymphs in the faster water. I only managed to land 10 and lost count of the lightning fast takes and misses.
Various up wing flies and a few Sedges about but very few rises seen.

The water was low and algal scum on the bottom due to too much sediment and nutrient enrichment, but the stream was still nice in the top section and lots of fish rising. 12 trout were caught to 1lb. Another 6 inches of water would have been just what the doctor ordered!

A lovely, breezy, part sunny day. A few fish rising. Lots of black gnats during afternoon. Had a take on a pheasant tail early on then switched to a small black gnat. One further take then caught and returned a six inch brown trout.
Another wonderful wild stream! Quite tricky fishing and wading not easy. Almost fell in!

This covers 4 days fishing on this beat the first week of September. All four days similar; fished approx 11am -3pm, hot sunny and blanks on first 3 days. Fourth day, a lovely 10 inch plump brownie - hope to see it again. Others about 5 inches. This was a rare opportunity for me to fish and am pretty inexperienced preferring to stick with dry fly for pleasure although a considerable distance of this small stream was only just fishable with waist waders. Clearly at times water level is much too high but for me. This was just right although perhaps less than normal. Wide variety of upwings of all sizes but hardly any fish rising. I used an elk hair caddis and black klinkhammer. I guess nymphing would be more productive in deeper stretches. Super wild stream and having lunch on a rocky bit I half expected to see the African Queen come round the bend together with a cigar playing Bogart magic. Meanwhile the world is in turmoil!
