Well with th weather an absolute picture at six this morning , did the chores , feeding the pigs , pooch a good walk etc etc then decided to zip up to the Edw at Hundred House . . . .

Arrived at the bridge about half nine , looked superb and already alive with insect life , happy days , water a lovely level too , opted initially for small Parachute Greenwells , and started down by the bridge , the odd rise and up from the bridge ; nice pool , first six inch brownie on . . . Lovely feisty take , nice start !!!! Took a bit to really get going though to be fair , and by half ten some regular rises , often tight in to the bank , Great fun , some fish small this morning , but still a buzz on light gear . . . .

Some nice fish amongst a tally of twelve this morning too , two of the fish over twelve inches , lovely run around on the six foot , two weight rod , spot on !!!! The farmer was cutting the grass in the field next to the river didn't seem to affect the fishing too much , although I'm sure it picked up a bit once he'd finished . . . He must have startled a fox , because it came blundering down the bank into the river , didn't see me , shook itself dry and then just sauntered off . . . . Things you see hey !!!!!

Over all a cracking there and a half hours , some superb sport , and a real mix of fish sizes , lovely feisty brownies here on the Edw , and masses of insect life too , also fished a CDC and elk this morning , as plenty of sedge activity , and equally effective , with some splashy aggressive takes to it , Great fun !!!!! Shall head down here again very very soon , probably middle of next week , spot on !!!

Short session - 9 small brown trout. It helps to be able to cast with either hand here.

3 wbt before falling in I think the river has some pools that I think are a lot deeper than in previous year, so would recommend chest waders to avoid my fate

A dozen or so (wasn't really counting) trout , all very pretty, ranging from very small to about 6oz. None of the smallest fish had parr marks so I assume they were mature fish.
Lots of fly life - various olives, some mayfly and swarms of iron blues. Also lots of recently emerged Beautiful Demoiselles in the bankside sedges.

Bowled up at the lovely little bridge at the Hundred House beat of the Edw at about half ten , reading sixteen degrees in my truck , lovely , slightly overcast , and a bit of a breeze , things looked good , as I tackled up , some upwings already on manoeuvres , great stuff !!!!!!

Initially tied on an eighteen Pale Watery , and immediate response in the first riffle , little fellow of perhaps six inches , a good start !!! It went like that all the way up , I changed also to a Parachute Adams , sixteen , and had hits on it also , great fun , lightening quick , and in the heads of some of those lovely pools , some surprises , and amongst the tally , I had some fish of between seven and eleven inches , great fun .

Managed about three quarters of the beat , it's fantastic water , some reminds me of the upper Lugg , whilst others is just like the Dore , great variety . . . .

Had a chill out for ten minutes half way up , and nice to see the kingfishers busy up and down , also spooked a heron , wonder how he did today , as the Edw has a great population of trout !!!!

Had quite a few that didn't make it to hand and threw the hook , also countless splash toy takes that resulted in catching thin air . . . . A fabulous , fun four hours , fourteen lovely Edw brownies to the net , some only small , but fun on light tackle , and had some tubby decent fish too , a really pleasant few hours , back here in a couple of weeks , nice start to the long weekend , morning session briefly tomorrow , as out with Mrs A . Later in the day , . . . . . . Now where shall I head to , choices choices , ha ha !!!!!!!!!!

Short Tenkara rod and olive kebari fished just under the surface in the runs and riffles.
8 small trout landed and plenty more missed.

Just a quick first visit in the evening. Took one fish on a duo nymph in a slow meander. A very large trout splashed at the nymph as it skated near the surface just before I roll cast it back out. I feel this venue could potentially hold some very large fish for such a small stream.

Took a chance on the Edw being fishable but could do with another day or two. Water level and clarity weren’t too bad but the water felt very cold after the storm. Tried various methods and ended up with a couple of trout on a streamer.
Heard my first Cuckoo of the spring which made the day worthwhile.

With the river low and the temperature very cold I had little expectation for catching and so it proved with a blank. There was no fly on water but after "recent cutting back" and a number of downed trees, there were limited opportunities to exploit the deeper pools. Having fished the area for 50 years ......"I will be back!!"

Well after doing some intensive house chores ha ha !!!!! I thought it high time I headed to a venue I haven't been to for an age , so opted for the Edw , at Hundred House . . . .

I arrived at the bridge at about tenish , tackled up usual outfit , an started mooching upstream , which a team of two nymphs , one a goldhead , tuther pheasant tail nymph , see how the mop flops with them !!!!!

Seems as though the coppicicng of the first two hundred yards has been very savage indeed , bankside alders etc etc down in some lovely pools , not sure who's done this , as it will eventually let light in , and some will be good tree kickers , I suppose , but still a shame that lots of pools are Unfishable . . . .

First Edw brownie , small ,from a deep meandering pool , only eight inches took goldhead hairs ear , spirited scrap , and quickly released , good start . . . Worked my way upstream , working all the water , and was an hour later when I had another good hit , again on the goldhead nymph , deep pool again , Same size roughly as the first , no real action on the Edw after those two , still , Bit early , hey ho . . . . . . . . .

And at midday was a great hatch of LDO ,s showing , and some March browns , but they werent in any danger , as the resident Edw brownies weren't rising at all , which was a shame , as they really put in a good appearance , and even though I tried a sixteen Adams for half hour , no response at all . . . .

Still , a lovely three hours on a cracking spring day , two gorgeous brownies caught and released , kingfishers seen , lambs in the fields , upwings on the go , what more could a fly fisher want , spot on , back soon when things crank up a bit here . . . . . .
