Started fishing at 9.15am - 1 barbel on my third cast. JT lost 3 fish in 5 casts so decided to bait the swim and give it a rest. We thought we were in for a good day but not to be. After that it was a real struggle. We fished plenty of other swims and I managed to catch 2 chub. I probably could have caught more but I was fishing too heavy and losing a lot of meat to small tugs. LAZY I think. Spoke to a lady walking her dog and she said that there was a pheasant shoot on Saturday. 800 bangs, did that make a difference?

First Wye Barbel caught at 6lbs 9oz. Fought well in the current and in excellent condition. Only bite of the day and fell to pellet in conjuction with a groundbait feeder. Father in law caught a Dace a cast and had a nice Chub to finish the day. Weed became a problem during the day which forced us to fish close in. We will be back to fish the Wye again!

We arrived to the river to find it was in good condition. 1 x 4lbs barbel and 1 x 3lbs chub in the morning. My friend K.T. had 8 barbel between 3 to 7lbs at around 3pm. I had another 7 barbel after 6pm, the last 4 fish over 7lbs.
A great day. I got broken by something really big, our guess was a big carp. A lovely strech of the Wye, hard going but best early morning and during the last 2 hours when the big barbel came out on a feeding frenzy. We will be back.

It is indeed a beautiful beat and I was looking forward to spending the day with my young son. Unfortunately the river was pretty much unfisheable as so much weed was being carried from upstream. As soon as the bait was cast in, the weed would attempt to wisk the rod away from you.

It is a shame that notice is not given to fisherman a little in advance like a few chalkstreams when weed cutting is underway. This would help choose a worthy day out on this wonderful river.

I hope I find better luck next time. The view and the scenery werre nearly worth the £40 nearly?

WUF Note - weed cutting rarely takes place on the Wye. The recent rise in water levels have been the first for a while and as a result have released debris that has been collecting in the margins. This is normal for a first rise after many weeks.

Good to see the river with colour and extra water on arrival but not the masses of weed it carried down the whole day. Impossible to keep a bait in the water for moe than a few minutes at a time so only option was to fish close in. Despite this limitation two rods caught 6 stunning barbel between 6-8 lbs and two good chub up to 4lbs. Confident that more would have been caught without the weed, but nonetheless a most enjoyable day on this picturesque new beat.

Quite a slow start to the day, as the river was still really low and clear. 1 Barbel caught in the morning and a few Chub. Improved in the afternoon after a change of swims, when 1 rod caught 6 Barbel on small (8mm) pellets and a few more Chub to the other rods.
