Water very low and clear. Fished for trout only using Waterhen spider size 14 and landed 12 fish from 12 till 3.30. Some dark olives appeared about 1pm.

Again water low and clear with strong gusty upstream wind. No takes below surface so switched to dry 14 dark olive and landed 1 fish of 1 and quarter pounds at the tail end of the Chine Pool above woodstream run. Fish returned. John had 3 fish on spider 14s in the woodstream pool above bridge. All returned. Again very sparse hatch. On hols next week!!! 26th hooray.

A cold foggy start with river still in semi- hibernation. A small hatch of large dark olives at 2pm. Only saw three rises all day. (10-4)
Caught a 4-5lb kelt (physique of a barracuda, would have weighed twice as much before ravages of reproduction) on a size 14 olive nymph. Good fun on a light rod. Safely returned, as was an entertaining 8oz brownie.

Saw a fish moving in the rock pool at the top of the beat at about 7.30am. Caught and returned a well mended kelt in the rock pool at about 2.30pm in bright sun light. No other interest unfortunately, but a nice day on a lovely beat. Had a cracking lunch at the Hardwick Arms which broke up the day nicely. Nice fly water shame there weren't too many fish.

Water 0.5m and cold. Fished for trout only and landed 3 decent size fish on the waterhen bloa. Took one at 1lb and returned others. Very sparse hatch.

Nil return.

Great to knock the dust off the trout rod. A very social day at the kind invitation of owner Barry. Weather sunny with occ. squally showers. Quite bracing when up to nether regions in water. One kelt caught by another rod. River in hibernation mode. A few large dark olives hatching. No rises or tugs. A beautiful double rainbow [not the finned type!] at end of day. Appetite for the season well and truly whetted.

Just by the Rock, caught a 5lb cock grilse on a size 12 stoats tail, released.

Received a very pleasant phonecall from owner Barry inviting me to fish this week following last weeks torrent. It was much appreciated as was his company on the day.
River was in perfect order and a restless fresh fish in the mid teens kept things interesting on Chine throughout the day. Caught two salmon [parr] around the 5[inches] mark with successive casts on the double hander. Hope to meet them again some day. Once again thanks to WUF staff and to Barry [top bloke!] Compliments of the close season to you all. Here's to hopefully more fishing at Chainbridge next year!

Two salmon released. A 10lb hen caught by the fallen tree at the bottom of the Rock Pool and a very strong 12lb cock salmon at the top of the Chine. Both fish were clean and fell to a small silver stoats tail tube on a floating line from around 6p.m.
