This was our first visit to the attractive lower stretch at Sugwas and we struggled to locate barbel in the snaggy and very clear water. Late into the evening we had a couple of mid-sized fish each to show for our efforts. I was a bit concerned at having a full sized bull for company in my peg but the old boy seemed friendly enough. I was somewhat relieved when he sauntered off to join his girls.

First time fishing the Wye. Difficult conditions with the wind blowing straight in my face but never the less I had a good day on a beautiful river. I only had my rod in the water for about 3 hours but I managed a barbel of about 4-5 pounds and lost another using groundbait feeder with pellets and hemp and pellets or boilie on the hook, so a good first day and looking forward to the next.

Great to be back on the Wye and another lovely beat, a day more suited to sunbathing than fishing but it beats working! 11 Barbel to 9lb 12oz and 3 Chub. The Barbel really started feeding as the sun went down, unfortunately we had to leave to check in to our B&B in time for dinner. Great day thanks W&UF!
Note to WUF: Would it be possible to add postcodes to the dayticket documents as some of these beats are very tricky to find?

First time on the Wye. Lovely beat, rising river, very brown and fast, lots of logs and debris coming down.
Managed to find slack water below snags.
Total - six barbel to 8lb, one chub.
Fantastic place in spite of the horrendous weather.

A slow start to the day with one barbel lost. The river was rising fast with logs and weed making some swims difficult, as did the group of 20 or so cygnets that insisted on going through my lines every five minutes or so. They were in front of me when I had a take, interesting to play a barbel with some irate birds playing knit one, pearl one around your line. I ended the day with 4 barbel to 6 lb 14 oz.
