River in very good condition although a little up. 9 grayling caught from 20cm to 41cm. Only fished part of the water so want to return and explore more.

Our visit coincided with a strong siberian northerly wind which added wind chill to an already low temperature - boy it was chilly! River still carrying some extra water although colour good - still quite pacy. Thank God for neoprenes! Nymphs were the order of the day and the slightly quieter water on the inside of the bends was targeted. After a slow start started to catch a few and whilst it was enjoyable it was hard work too with the wind being quite troublesome. By 3pm the cold got the better of us but we had 17 grayling and three trout between us. Best grayling a good 2lbs. Best fly pattern - Oliver Edwards' peeping caddis - weighted.
Nice beat - would like to come again when water down and weather warmer! Odd BWO stuggling out but nothing rising.

Enjoyed my day on this beat so much last Tuesday decided to try again on Sunday. After reading up about Czech nymphing I was ready to go! The river was well up since Tuesday, evidenced by the increased flow over the weir. I was also dismayed to see a lot of colour in the water...but it is late November, what else should I have expected? First fish was an out of season brownie of a good size. Next fish a good grayling (my first of any size...hooray!) Both fish on a PTN over a Czech nymph. Then things went quiet. Fished to the only two rises of the day, Klinkhammer, for two more small grayling. Several very close encounters with an Otter fishing below the weir...wonderful to observe. A great day, more practice needed and a little less water in the river...Thank You WUF

First time on this stretch and the river a good 2 foot up but still qite clear. Stunning stretch of water and plenty of meandering turns and potential holding places. However vey cold and only managed 2 small grayling. Great beat and will return on a more pleasant day.

Looked at the weather and made a last minute decision to have a day on this delightful new beat. It was frosty and foggy when I arrived. I'm new to grayling fishing and it showed. Had 3 small out of season brownies all on a PTN dropper fished over a Czech nymph on the point. Had three other fish on which were all larger, presumed grayling, but all threw the hook!......lack of experience I guess. Wow these wild fish are quick! Only one small fish rising all day. Never the less a most enjoyable day away from the "hustle bustle" of daily life......Thank you WUF

My first time Grayling fishing, had a great day. Slow start more down to my lack of knowledge than the river, but as I got into it things started to improve. I caught 6 fish, 5 grayling and 1 out of season brownie, biggest grayling 17 inches and over 2lbs cracking fish I was over the moon. Lovely stretch of river will definitely be back.

First visit to a foundation beat and first attempt at grayling fishing. Water somewhat couloured and many leaves/debris. Caught 1 good trout of about 12 inches and missed a couple of takes - more practice needed to catch my first grayling... an enjoyable few hours. Better luck next time!

Hard work today. Not sure why as the river looked to be in reasonable condition. OK, so it was up a bit and really pushing through and it had been cold overnight. Talking to the farmer, the river had been carrying colour on Saturday, but come Sunday the colour had all but gone so it was a confident angler striding down to the bottom of the beat on a glorious autumn morning. Not to be though and, come lunchtime not so much as a sniff of a fish. More and more frequent changes of fly during the afternoon. All the usual suspects - PTNs, GRHEs, Copper Johns, Czech Nymphs etc - but to no avail. Finally saved the blank by putting on a Klinkhammer and casting to the first fish I had seen rise all day. More of the same in the next run on a day when results did not match application.

First time on the beat. A big river - it is surprising what a difference being a few miles downstream makes - and, with a nasty downstream wind, was glad that I took the 9 ft rod. Mind you, with so many meanders and being able to fish both banks, the downstream wind was less of a problem that it otherwise might have been. Gin clear water. River pushing through.

Started in the bottom weir and moved upstream looking for the sort of even-paced runs that are usually stuffed full of Grayling on the Lugg at this time of year. In spite of finding plenty of likely looking candidates, it didn't really work out that way although, I picked up fish fairly consistently as I worked up river but, if memory serves, never more than one fish per run. I ended up with around a dozen Grayling - mostly in the 10-12 inch bracket - on Czech nymphs/PTNs/Copper Johns. Found a few fish rising, just above the Bridge mid-afternoon. Switched to a Klinkhammer for a couple of small Trout and a couple of even smaller Grayling before an early finish to beat the rain.

An interesting beat which, under better conditions, should really produce.

7 x grayling 10-19 inches, 2 out of season trout 8-9 inches. I spent nearly all the day bugging, a brief dry fly spell after lunch resulting only in a large number of grayling parr from the gravel flats. It was quite a business locating fish of size, but then in late afternoon three very nice fish in succession came from a single hole: 15 inches, 19 inches and then 17 inches. I was duly impressed; I don't see 19 inch grayling every day.
