A lovely afternoon spent on a lovely beat. Nymph fished up to the second weir, 10 grayling landed, 2 around the 2lb mark the rest between 8oz and 1.5lbs and 2 OOS brownies, all swiftly released. Most fish fell for the pink tag jig. Spoke briefly with the land owner how was extremely friendly and helpful. All round a very pleasant experience.

Good access and clear parking on a hard standing. Wasn’t quite sure at first where the river was but finally found it.
Wading was good and a few deep pools to fish, lower beat was slow paced but upper was quick and fishy.
2 grayling fell to bugs. Lots of 2 inch grayling around the feet which was encouraging.

1 Minnow fairly caught on size 18 dry fly.
The beat is getting very overgrown with backside vegetation so fishing can be difficult. Not much can be done about that except wade through the nettles ect. One word of warning in the field you have to cross there are bullocks which may be a bit intimidating.
There was very little hatching so only an occasional fish rising. I suspect we are between fly seasons. The main sedge hatch has not yet started and there were no significant hatches of upwing flies. The main fly in evidence were tiny midges. I managed to get 3 or 4 fish to rise to a dry fly and caught one of them. It was not a very large trout. There were no grayling in evidence.

Weather perfect, upwings on water and nothing rising to them. in fact it was the worst day I've had on the Lugg but nice to be out after Lockdown. will wait for welsh rivers to open up for the English as I feel there's more bang for your buck on the Wye and Usk.
