Arrived finding the river looking good. As usual trotting the main flow, although the wind was making it difficult I was soon into the first barbel and what great sport on the stick.
It turned out to be one of my best sessions of the season with a PB on the stick float 11lb.
Managed 9 Barbel…11lb / 10lb/ 8lb / 8lb 2oz/ 2x 6lb / 7lb / 5lb / 5lb 6oz / ……
Had to leave early as the wind was gusting gale force. Would have had many more but what a day !
All fish caught on the stick float.
Thanks again Team and the river Wye……….????

After 12hrs of nothing I was completely resigned to a blank, then in the last 40mins absolute carnage broke loose! 3 of the barbel were around the 8lb mark, one was around 7lb and I also had a smaller one for good measure. Standard feeder tactics in the woods accounted for all the fish.

Got there midday just as it started raining heavily. Tried ledgering pellet and bollies but the weed was a problem and made it very difficult to fish. Not many swims on this stretch and couple with adverse weather it was not a productive afternoon.

Back on yet another fantastic beat on the WUF portfolio, having not visited this beat previously it was with anticipation as i drove down a very dark lane to the entrance to the beat, having loaded my gear i headed left into the woods to try and find a decent spot, unfortunately there weren't that many to choose from as they were either overgrown or due to the very low river conditions difficult to reach the water, regardless i managed to find one suitable, a bit of mountaineering and gardening and i was set or so i thought, although it had a bit of flow only to find out it was quite shallow, half hour later and no bites it was time for a move, i headed back through the woods into the field and found a good peg only to find it was also the cow's watering hole, thinking i might get trampled by a herd of cows i opted against it and moved on a little ways to the next peg, after settling in and after a few casts later i had my first indicating and struck into a good fish "a Barbel " finally and after a great fight she was in the net, after resting and a quick photo she was returned and rested again to the river.
By this time the sun was rising burning off the mist at the same time, unfortunately turns out that it was going to be my only bite of the day, the sun revealed a very shallow stretch of water in front of me, that said i persevered until noon and then decided to cut my losses and return home early. The fish weighed 8lb 12oz caught on legered meat and fed hemp and pellet.
Thanks again to the WUF and land owner for giving us great access to a lovely beat and all the wildlife within.

This stretch should not be offered by the Wye and Usk or anyone else. Before getting the tackle out of the car we decided to look for places as this stretch is notorious for lack of swims. Having walked down from the car park and up from the Church car park this was proved to be true. The only places we might have tried were not actually part of their beat. It might be different in Winter but in Summer / early Autumn it should be avoided. We wasted £25 each and had to go elsewhere. Very unhappy indeed
