River levels back down and clear again but the chub still fed well throughout the day with the majority of the barbel coming in the evening. Fish caught on float and feeder on the usual variety of baits. Great days fishing.

Conditions were incredibly variable, heavy showers and scorching sun. Fished on the right bank with my nine year old son. The river here is rather featureless, for the coarse angler the stretch is even shorter than its boundary since the lower section turns into rapids.
Otherwise the river seems to be uniformly 3-4 feet across with abundant streamer weed. There are plenty of fish between the weeds, but the snags (weed) made things a little tedious.
Hooked fish on pellet, corn and meat (legered, both with and without a feeder), lost a couple to poor hook holds but the odd feature of our bag was the size, we had one barbel at around 4lb, two at 2lb and one around 12oz, even the chub was under a pound!
We didn't stay long, the constant snagging and being cramped because we needed to sit together made it a little frustrating on the day along with the weather and the canoes, who behaved fine but because we were somewhat hidden amongst vegetation it meant we had to keep our ears open for them and then jump up and ask them to avoid our lines.
No complaints with the stretch, a lone angler with possibly beefed-up gear will catch barbel all day.

Lovely beat, barbel didn't show to pellet early on so decided to trot for chub with luncheon on the hook. Over a three hour period brought 19 to hand with the largest three 5 pound, smallest 1 pound all the rest between 2-4 pound. Went back to the swim I fished early and carried on for a further 3 hours before a barbel of 8-9 pound woofed up my pellet. This was at 7pm then not a knock till packing up at dusk.

River was fairly high and coloured, as a result there was a lot of debris. Fished from the right hand bank, just below the bridge with luncheon meat on a running ledger. All Barbel, bar one, were 5lb+ with one pushing 9lb. Largest Chub 3lb+.
Great service from the WUF thankyou for a great day!

Lovely stretch of river. However water levels were very low. Only 1 swim was fishable which was on the near bank. All fish caught were on pellet.

Another great days fishing. Caught on all the usual baits (pellets, boilies, meat etc) and from most swims. The barbel didn't show up until later in the day but this wasn't surprising with a bright day and very low and clear river conditions.

Wanted to try a single handed rod here having fished earlier in the season with heavier fly gear. Low clear water made for very easy wading and showed up some very interesting details of the riverbed. Well worth the visit just for that; a deep cut in the bedrock at one point which was a revelation and a huge pocket/lie completely out of context with any signs on the surface.
As for the fishing; too many Chub. My apologies to the coarse anglers amongst you but if you can't 'bag up' here then take up golf! Just paddle out from the left bank to the drop-off and see if you can count them all....
I finally managed to avoid the pests and land some decent trout of around the pound mark by fishing just under the surface of the faster water with a #6 double Bann Shrimp....
Surprisingly few canoes for a Saturday and remarkably well behaved, especially the serious outdoorsy types...
