Fished this beat in Sept 2016 and was looking forward to adopting a roving approach but unfortunately I took a right tumble on the initial descent ( caught my foot under an exposed tree root ) which resulted in a winding , a bruised ego , and a horrible snapping noise that turned out to be a bust rod top section. It wasn't enjoyable at the time but now I've narrated the story to my family their hysterical laughter has proved a tonic. Needless to say I didn't fish but the episode hasn't dampened my affection for the stunning River Wye and I'll return soon.

Beautiful part of the Wye, it was good to be back early season. Never fished this beat before so I knew I had my work cut out. Started in the middle and worked my way downstream, getting lots of bites all day but no takes . It was very hot! Stuck it out til last knockings and managed a few fish, usual pellet rig.

I will be back here again sometime, much more to explore!

Arrived early to this lovely beat, I fished it last year but failed to catch, so was determined to get one out. The river had a bit of colour but was low. After the long walk I fished on the croy swim using feeder and pellets tactics and instantly had bites: first out was a 2lb chub then followed by a 6lb 12oz barbel. It then went quiet for few hours then 3 more chub around 2 to 3 lbs and another barbel at around 5lb, then went quiet again before my last fish a nice 4lb chub. All in all a good day on the Wye.

Just the one pike was caught approx 5lb. Think the flow was a bit strong after the rain fall on Thursday but a lovely place and will be going back.

Most of the stretch is shallow and full of streamer weed, unsuitable for lure fishing for pike at this time of the year.

O.k, arrived about midday to find a hired van parked in the usual parking space and sure enough there was 2 guys fishing with all the gear with no tickets, not impressed! They packed up and guessing they probably been fishing here all week along with the foreign speaking fisherman in the last feedback . Having fished about 10 different beats I haven't seen any bailiffs or private WUF signs at all which I think is a must to deter people from abusing these lovely beats. Sorry to have a moan but my local club has this in place and it works. Anyway, caught some nice big chub on meat in nice clear water conditions.
WUF Note: We were very sorry to hear about this experience. Coming across poachers is, unfortunately, a risk on any fishery, however many signs are put up. There is little that can be done about these incidents several days afterwards. We therefore urge anglers to call the EA/NRW incident line (0800 80 70 60) immediately if you come across people fishing illegally or without permission. If the incident is on a Passport beat, please also report it to us as soon as you can on 01874 712074. If you feel threatened in any way, please call the police on 101 or 999. Advice on poaching incidents is given in the “What To Do Guide” issued with every booking.
