The river was running quite clear but there was a reasonable flow with the Brecon gauge at approx 1ft. Hooked and played out a good 12-13lb frsh silver fish (Orange Flamethrower tube) only for it to flip and free itself just as I went to land it! A good day nonetheless.

Despite a terrible forecast, the weather was relatively kind apart from some strong squalls from time to time.
The river was at 1'2"on the gauge. We caught 9 WBT in total including 3 in the 1.5-2lbs mark - all returned. All were caught on weighted nymphs from the pools rather than the faster water. There was a small hatch of olives after lunch but the fish were not interested. As we left the river the heavens opened! We look forward to returning next year.

Cold start to a sunny but windy day. Good directions etc to the beat, easy access to the water. Started at the lower limit and had a fish each around 13" in the first half hour, both on beaded nymph - immaculately conditioned. We made our way upstream but struggled to fish in the chosen way due to the strong downstream wind. Upstream of the parking another couple of fish were caught from the fast water. After lunch we made our way upstream of the road bridge hopeful for some peace and quiet if anything else, and we found a nice run out of the wind with a few fish rising. Here 9 fish were caught to approx 15" (2 taken), lovely fishing and made the 2nd rod very happy. Although out of the wind, there was the invasive hustle and bustle of lawnmowers, distant music, sporadic shouting, and vehicles that belong on a race track consistently whipping up and down the A40. Productive penultimate day of the trout season totalling 13 fish, very enjoyable with DZ, but the noise (especially the A40) stripped it of the romance expected when trout fishing the Usk.

An excellent day. River falling and clearing despite heavy rain showers. Good hatches of various olives...autumn dun and smaller olives. Caught 25 trout from 1/4 to 1lb on nymph and dry fly. Interestingly larger fish not in evidence.

Only managed 2 brown trout on GRHE, best around 11 inches. Both fish returned and were in good condition. Occasional rise to olives observed but no success with dry fly.
I will return in the Spring!

Our second visit this year to this beautiful stretch of the Usk. Again the river was in perfect condition. If there was a down side to the day, then it was the very heavy, slow moving showers. We caught several small WBT, all returned to the river. There was a good evening rise which lasted about 45 mins. otherwise, we fished various nymphs most of the day. Certainly a beat we like to return to on another visit.

Arrived 9am, hazy sun which softened with further cloud . Searched the stretch opposite the stream with an emerger (this bit looks so fishy but never had any luck) without success. Moved up to the narrow stretch and caught three lively 8 inchers on the emerger. Moved up to the run the other side of the A40 bridge, no luck with the merger, tried the duo also no luck. Returned to the stretch opposite the stream fished duo again no luck. Wind very gusty down stream by now, called it a day.

Arrived to full sunshine and the Usk in fine shape, perfect height and clear water. Nothing rising all day so reverted to nymphing. 6 wbt caught and released, 8"-10". This is a really open beat with very little cover so the bright blue sky and blazing sun was not ideal. Prolific Sedge hatch at around 6.30pm which surprisingly didn't switch the fish on.
Caught and kept the big Rainbow I lost in exactly the same lie on a previous trip. It ended up on our Landlady's plate that evening (Ty Gwyn, Crickhowell, hugely recommended).
Saw a salmon leaping in the big pool below the bridge, always a cheering sight. For anglers seeking easy access, relatively simple wading and a good variety of fishing you could do worse than wet your fly at Dinas & Abercynrig.
