Whether took an turn for the worse as I drove north, arriving to find it overcast and on the chilly side with occasional downstream gusts
Plenty of flies coming of the water but no fish taking them. Spidered my way up to the charmingly named Sewage Pool. Got three fish all around 10 inch. Around midday saw 2 fish rising just below the Cynrig on the left bank. Landed both on an Olive Kline, both fish around 8 inches.
Fished the bottom half the beat without success in the afternoon. No fish rising apart from the 2 above. All fish returned.
Might have been a productive evening as wind had dropped and now much warmer but I had to leave at 5pm.

Not many fish rising but beautiful river conditions. I fished only on dry fly, on nymph it would have been even better.

Although river still high, colour has at last cleared. Poor amount of fly about for May but trout rising freely, probably `midging`. Concentrated most of our effort on top part of the beat and caught 23 trout all on dry fly. We worked hard to catch these as many were rising against the far bank. 2 of 2lbs, 2 of 1.75lbs, 2of 1.25lbs and most of the rest between 0.5lbs and 1lb. In all, a great days fishing.
Goosander family spotted.

Rain overnight, river very coloured. Despite conditions, some fish were rising. Top Pool provided good sport on a dry sedge, although wading challenging due to very powerful push from the current; took 4 fish between 1lb and 1.75lbs from same position in less than an hour.

Over night rain got the Honddu raging and colouring the Usk, had a look at the beat, a new one to me, called the office and was "washed off". Looking forward to returning. Thankyou to all at WUF.

I believe I have been catching sea trout even though the Usk is not a renowned sea trout river and the time of the season seems out. The two I took for the pan were very pink fleshed. I expected them to be a silver brown trout but I now think they could be early run sea trout. Caught at dusk on dry fly.
WUF Note: Some Usk (& Wye) brown trout can be very silver in appearance with dark spots and without much in the way of red or yellow markings. The fish caught were likely (but not definitely) browns.
