Water was low, but had the company of heavy rain showers during the day (most unusual considering the warm summer weather of late). Fished a team of beaded nymphs and caught 7 brownies, the best being about half a pound. Lost two better ones when each threw the hook by leaping from the water. Tried a klinkhammer, half an hour before the end, couldn't connect on the only take.
Lovely beat, bedrock was clearly showing, although very slippery in places. Lots of birdlife, herons, kingfishers, swans and a gaggle of geese paddling around. A beat to come back to for sure.

4th consecutive day, starting to get a bit weary in the hot dry weather. River low but fish can still be caught. Started off with a nice brownie down by the cottage which nailed a skating fly then sat for a rest on the salmon boards – gazing in to the river in front of me I realised I had 3 or 4 resident salmon in the vicinity, rolling and turning, perhaps they thought there was some rain coming? A scary moment when one of them rolled under a skating dry….
Fish not easy but ended up with 18 in total, best a trout and grayling each of 15”
So 94 fish over 4 days despite the heat and low water – that’s good enough for us! Wonderful fishing as usual….many thanks!

Low river but deep enough channels and faster sections to allow pocket water fishing. 5 salmon parr were also caught but don't really count for the stats. Fantastic to see grayling too. All fish 6" to 10" and taking both the 14 Klinkhammer and 18 gold-head PTN on dry-dropper setup.

All caught on a 'clink and dink' arrangement, with all fish taking the nymph - a very small pheasant tail gold head

Second day on the beat and tried out both bridge Gutter & Spring Pool Gutter. Both produced fish on Czech nymphing as the previous day. Even though another hot day fish were in the mood and had three trout dance off the hook. Again another surprise was a 3/4lb Chub on a black nymph and took me on a merry dance down stream. A big bold and beautiful fish. Another interesting day on this beat. Will be back.

Hot and sunny day greeted me Saturday morning with the river very low. Had booked a two day session and concentrated on the deep runs - Bridge Pool Gutter/Heirag. Czech nymphing brought results with good Grayling - 10 - 12inch. But the big surprise was a 2/3ib Chub. Put up a very good fight and took a GRHE on jig hook like all fish on the day. Found the Heirag pool too deep to fish even though with river was very low. Kept moving from pool to pool which seemed to work well.

The overcast and cooler weather got the fish in a feeding mood. A Life jacket deer hair caddis with a 2.5mm silver bead french nymph duo setup, fished short on a long leader worked a treat. Covering fast broken water the lightening fast hits resulted in good hook ups with this contact method. Most of the fish were of a good average size of 8" - 10" with the largest Trout at 16" and the Grayling at 15", the other was a nice sized Dace. The cork on the new rod I was using for the first time now smells like it should do.
