A hot sunny day and the river was very low. No salmon seen, possible barbel take on a Salmon fly.

We booked this trip several weeks ago so couldn’t have known it would be 29-30 degrees. Needless to say, no fish were caught. It was a bit annoying to ‘share’ the beat with 5-6 wild swimmers, especially when a middle-aged bloke stripped off completely (right put me off my klink and dink). To add insult to injury I slipped and fell in during one of the tricky wading sections near the suspension bridge so that was me soaked and home for an early bath…

All on gold head nymph and all returned. The biggest one was about 12”. Great fishing despite the hot weather.

Made use of the faster water along several parts of the beat, which paid dividends on a bright, hot day and the river running low. Gold headed nymph and a copper john caught two decent grayling, best around a pound and a half. Took the afternoon off to relax by the fishing hut and watch the bird life. Great place to spend a day and ponder why I don't do it more often.
At around 1900 I went to the Heirag pool and watched several fish jumping in the boil. Try as I might I couldn't entice any interest from my various offerings. Stayed until the evening rise where a pale yellow evening dun imitation led to much interest from the resident salmon parr and smaller graying down below the bridge.
Probably my favorite beat on the Wye. Hopefully won't be as long until next time.

Dabbled with the salmon rod but soon switched to a trout rod with 9’’ on the gauge and tea coloured water.
There seemed to be lot of Grayling in the beat today.
Fished duo combinations with most of the fish to a 14 GRHE and a few to an Adam’s.
None of the trout, bar one, were of any size, but the Grayling included two lovely specimens of 2 1/2- 3lb from the cottage pool. All safely returned.
Overcast cooler conditions and a nice peaceful days fishing.

River low and clear as expected, managed to catch a few trout and grayling between us although very small.
With the exception of one trout being around 14-15 inches and in excellent condition.
Size 14 gold bead nymphs of various colours seemed to do the trick in the deeper water, near the top end of the beat.
5 trout,
9 Grayling.
All returned unharmed.
