No fish seen or caught, nice day though, nice beat. Will return to try my luck again

All 3 were fly fishing as deep as possible under the kind instruction of the ghillie Colin. Unfortunately nothing seen or touched. Wonderful day to sit on the bank with Kelly's kettle slowly coming to the boil & watch the passing wildlife. Caught in the sunlight on the far side of the river was a marching army of many thousands of unidentified flies heading upstream with the aid of a tailwind; Every 20-30 metres they would dip down to touch the water before continuing their journey. I was once told they do this to sense the direction of the current to ensure they are heading upstream to deposit their eggs later on well upstream?
WUF Note: the unidentified flies were almost certainly grannom.

No fish touched or seen.

Mainly overcast with the odd sunny interval.Good level and flow and WT of 8 degrees C. Tried various swims and picked up odd fish. A pleasing end of the season day. Roll on June!

3 Barbel, 5 Chub

Lovely day on a lovely stretch of river, 2 x 3lb chub and a 8lb 6oz barbel.

Lovely beat to fish. All the barbel came in one swim, but there are so many swims to choose from and they all look productive.

13 Barbel, 4 Chub

Fished the bottom end of the beat from 8am-6pm. Overnight temp of -2 wasn't great and the river was pushing through (1.1m) and running clear, the water felt very cold! We fished the float during the morning but bites where few and far between with only one trout around 1.5lb. We them moved over to the feeder in the afternoon (pellet & maggots) and only had the two bites, a barbel around 6.5lb and a chub of 2.5lb. All in all a tough day. On reflection fishing the slower deeper water further up on the beat might have been more productive.

Mucky day tucked under the brolly. Quiet day too but great to be out.

2 Barbel, 2 Chub

Bright skies and a cold breeze welcomed us on our first visit to this beat. The gently sloping banks and the generally well-maintained nature of the beat made for a very attractive sight on arrival, with the river’s tinge of colour only serving to heighten our anticipation.
Cloud cover increased as the day passed but our search for fish wasn’t made any easier as a result. B P led the way with two Barbel, at 7lb 1oz and 5lb, both caught on pellet. C H resorted to exploring most of the swims along the beat, finally managing to winkle out a Barbel of exactly 6lb in the late afternoon, also on pellet.
All fish were fin-perfect, were determined not to come to the net without a major fight, and were all returned in full health. Whilst the conditions had seemed to promise greater things, the three pristine fish that chose our baits provided a very enjoyable day, in magnificent surroundings, on a special river.
