Fished from 1pm til 8pm. Rose one around 5.30pm then caught one 7” trout (returned) and one 11” (kept) between 6pm and 7pm - all on a Parachute Adams. Lovely stretch of water

I found the directions to the beat very helpful and parked just inside the gate to the field on the rough stony area. it was a very warm day and the river was still low and slightly coloured due to recent rain. No sign of any Salmon anywhere on the beat. Trout were showing on the food lines in the faster water and one 7oz trout was taken on a small salmon double from the far bank..
It was easy wading the river, but this stirred up a lot of sediment despite careful footwork. A nice beat in lovely countryside.

Late decision to go, fished from 12.30 to 4pm when it started to rain. Nothing rising so used to team of 3 spiders and 3mm ptn as point fly had a eventful afternoon had two to the net 8 and 10 inches and managed to lose 9 all had taken the spiders not sure what that was all about, . Put it down to lack of ability .Great afternoon lovely peaceful beat, easy wading got to be one of my favourite's on the Usk.

Note that the suspension bridge has collapsed and looks to be unrepairable. This means that it is not possible to fish below Beech Pool unless you can wade across the river. OK in the current low water, but be very careful if the river gets much higher.

- Morning was more productive than evenings. The fish fed aggressively between 8-12.
- Fish were focusing on emergers throughout the weekend
- Fussy on dry fly but were happy to eat nymphs.
- Most fish taken near the middle & heads of pools as well as broken runs / pocket water.
- Size 18-20 PTN variants worked best with silver and rose gold beads very effective.
- Most fish 18-25cm with some fish between 32-42cm
- Fished 5:30 to 21:00

Just booked an after 5pm ticket, as much of the Ashford House beat (my original choice) on the opposite bank was inaccessible. Very little fly life and virtually no rising fish until late. Caught 3 small fish in the afternoon, one nice brownie about 1lb late afternoon, and then late on one lovely trout about 2.5lbs - all on home-tied dry emerger patterns. This is a delightful beat, with lots of variety and interesting sections and good access. Like all the river its shows horrific signs of eutrophication - not a strand of weed growth to be seen anywhere. What it must have been like in its hey day?

2 small fish on spiders in the afternoon. Waited until 8 for a hoped-for rise but it stayed very slow and I missed the 3 splashy risers that took pity on me. There was an earlier report which mentioned the cattle. Those of a timid disposition can take comfort from the fencing between the bank and field.
