River low and clear. First frost of the season, bright sunshine. Not ideal barbel conditions! Hence, no fish. Tried pellet feeder, meat, cheese paste, small baits, big baits, four swims(mainly the groins downstream of hut). Couldn’t even manage a consolation chub! Beautiful stretch, will be back when conditions improve.

Water now like tap water. Level down to summer levels.
When we arrived there was an otter and a cormorant at the confluence of the Lugg.
However we did manage 5 chub which included a 5lb 6oz chub.
One of our party lost 2 barbel in the rocks.
Not a great day in bright sunshine which later turned into showers and the temperature dropping all the time. Still a well kept beat we will no doubt return to this stretch again.
As ever we've had a great week here on the Wye.
We would recommend staying at Falcon House B&B at How Caple which we have done on many occasions which is really handy for a lot of Wye and Usk beats.
Also the Moon at Mordiford is great for a meal and pint or 2. They are very welcoming to us anglers who at times may be a bit dishevelled.

Weather hot and water level quite low - I never seem to catch it right. No bites from barbel but managed to hook and land a 22lb 8oz Pike which made the day which is a personal best. Lovely spot

Started at the pylon bend and first barbel was a 9.04 gem, then nothing for the next 3 hours so moved to the top end of the beat just d/stream of the rapids. Had a couple of chub but no barbel so returned to the pylon mid afternoon and had the last three fish in the last 2 hours.
Pellets ledgered with PVA bags was the method.

A beautiful day with warm sunshine and with the river falling we thought we were in for a good day. But it was tough going with a few sporadic fish taken throughout the day. One barbel at 71/2 lb and 3 chub - the best going close on 5 lbs.
A switch to trotted maggot bought a few small dace midday.
1 Barbel, 4 Chub
