6 Trout

24 x trout 10-16 inches, mixture of spiders and dries - Waterhen Bloa, Dark Moorgame, Woodcock and Hare's Lug, Olive Jingler, Humpback Spider. The last is a Paul Proctor pattern which is actually fished at the surface as an emerger. Today was another cloudy but mild spring day, large dark olives through the morning with fish coming to spiders and Olive Jingler. Then between 12 and 1 o'clock a short but intense hatch of march browns which seemed to get every fish in the pool showing at the surface. It was quite spectacular for a while. However, they wanted an emerger rather than a complete dun imitation and, after some wasted time, Proctor's Humpback Spider turned out to do the trick. All quiet on the river by mid-afternoon with a chilly wind picking up. March Browns seem to show up earlier every year now.

24 Trout

19 x trout 10-15 inches, dry fly and spiders. We had a long wait to get started this year, but at last the Usk dropped to a level making fishing possible, with quite a nice colour to the river, even if the current was still strong. A warm rather dull day with a slow burning large dark olive hatch going on for quite a few hours from 10 o'clock on. Dark Moorgame was the favoured one from a team of spiders, while an Olive Jingler got 8 fish which were hitting duns on the surface. All done by 4 o'clock.

19 Trout

River up and clear couple of other anglers fishing, reports of fish running. Had A parr take a large hairwing double and one good pull could have been a trout but nothing after. Not much sign of fly life an only saw about half a dozen rises. Good to see bailiff about.

Warm day, not much happening. 1 trout, 8 inches taken on a dry caddis just above the bridge at lunch time.

It was greato be out saw a few small trout and a couple of larger trout but no bites

Fished all day. 5 fish caught 1 on Dry the rest on nymphs.. The river was high and coloured.. Seen 3 people poaching and they didn't seem bothered to see us one bit

Nil return. River high and coloured after several days of heavy rain.

Arrived early morning and left around 1pm - 9 trout mostly small but 3 or 4 needing the hand net. All returned, Persistent rain most of the day. 7 took a nymph fished duo style; 2 larger fish took the elk hair mayfly. Dog walkers using the river to exercise their dogs and disturbing the fishing upstream.
