We battled the wind all day and saw very few rises. Alas no fish and retired early.

Very pleasant day if a bit too windy for me. Nothing rising so default position is a couple of Endrick spiders. All fish caught in one area just below the pylons where the river bends and narrows before the island. Managed to achieve a first by catching a shad. Beware the route to the enclosure from the gate as you need to keep to the river edge bank. I parked and stayed by the gate and as a result walked a bit more and started at the upstream limit. Wading good and not slippery.

Excellent day - in the end. Got only one fish up to 5pm, then from about 7pm for 2 hours there was a pretty consistent hatch, and rise, to medium olives. Got fish of 15, 16, 18 (2.5lbs) and 20 (3lbs) inches on a medium upwing thing like a Hendrickson. It was gratifying to get two big fish, which went like a rocket, after being broken in the same place by two, two weeks ago. This time I was ready, and had increased the tippet from 6x to 5x.

A good fish of around 2.5lbs taken on a deeply fished PTN at the tail of a pool, and 2 others on a dry - both around 1.5lbs.
Healthy fish, all safely returned.

A cool day for the time of year and the river a little murky after heavy rain 48 hours previous. Some mayfly present and fish rising, though not in abundance, from 1100. Seeing the mayfly I tied on a similar dry fly with a nymph dropper, a few trout rose to the dry but none took it, eventually caught a brown trout which took the nymph. It was returned. I fished until about 1700 and would have stayed had I been able to as the fishing was still on.
A very nice beat with easy access and no overhanging trees to catch flies. A nice day of wildlife watching as well with a Goshawk, Oyster catchers and a content looking otter. Easy booking, thank you.

With almost no rise (or hatch, except a few yellow mays) during the day, landed 4 modest fish on the duo (PTN). I was, however, surprised to hook on a small nymph a big fish (2.5 to 3 lbs) in the shallow water near my bank, which jumped and ran hard to a mid-stream snag/rock 20 yards upstream, on which it duly snagged the Klink and broke me. Reminded me of two great fish I lost on the Madison and Gunnison (Montana and Colorado), which I hooked close in to own bank and which ran immediately to a mid-river underwater rock snag and broke me. Given that the snag was nowhere near the lie and that they ran there immediately, I am sure they must have learnt this trick from experience in previously breaking off anglers, and now repeated this on me. Same on the Usk this time - so respect for their brainpower deserved. (Evening rise to duns, maybe BWO's, with another big one wrenching the downstream-trailing fly and breaking the 6x.)

Bright and breezy day with the odd brook dun and a sporadic trickle of yellow mays appearing. Never quite enough hatching to get fish rising happily to the adult duns, but fished dry fly anyway and managed a few mostly to emerger patterns. Couple of rods fishing the opposite bank.

Really good day, with a good rise of trout in the afternoon. Unfortunately no fish due to my lack of finesse, but a very good day on a lovely beat.
