Cefn Rhosan Fawr, what a stunning place to fish.If there is a more beautiful place to fish on a sunny day, I have yet to see it. Chose salmon ticket but only caught brown trout, released back into the red hued water of river. A mink was seen with a trout in its mouth, and some amazing underwater swimming by a merganser duck, I think. My only gripe about this beat is the poor access or lack of a path in the upper stretch, which simply runs out and you are forced to wade. I think this would be a bit of a problem if the river was higher. A truly great day out though, and I spent as much time taking photographs, as fishing. Stunning.

2 Brown trout on copper John nymph. Some fish rising and had missed takes to dry sedge. Mink tracks seen in the mud and goosanders disturbed. Weather deteriorating through day with heavy showers coming in

Great day fishing the lower section. A few trout to be seen on lower section of the beat - lost a large fish on a bend under the trees due to the 4 pound leader breaking. Lots of small takes on White mayfly. Great place to escape the bussle of life. Large amount of herons 6-7am when I arrived.
Total caught 4 small browns all returned.

A lovely day on the river with lots of flylife but a rather dry river. One small brownie caught on a size 14 yellow bodied white wing emerger [apologies, can't remember the name]. Enjoied meeting Jean Williams for the first time [thanks for the chocolate biscuits, Jean]. Only saw 2-3 other rises all day. A better day fishwise yesterday on Upper Grywne Fawr. Again a low river [despite rain the day before] but managed a one and a half pound brownie on a size 16 Red Tag. Some large mayfies about.

Caught 8 brown trout between us, all about 4 - 6 inch tiddlers. Good hatch of a wide variety of flies. Lots of tiny bwo, plenty of mayflies and some of most things in between, including daddy long legs. Very few fish rising and no sign of any fish bigger than the few we caught. Nevertheless, a very enjoyable day on such a beautiful beat. Stayed the night in Park Place guest house, Crickhowell. Comfortable, and excellent breakfast. Very friendly - nothing too much trouble. Thoroughly recommended

Excellent spot but drew a complete blank today. No fish rising, and no takes using nymphs even in the fast flows. Water level low . Couple of fellow fishermen reported to me that they had been there the day before and again no takes.
