River falling slowly after flood the day before, cold wind, sunny in afternoon. Caught and returned two on dries during very short hatch at around 2pm, one on a nymph deep earlier in day.

More of a walk with a rod than a fishing session as the river was pretty high and fishable in only a couple of places, although dropping failry quickly. Plenty of LDOs caught in foam but nothing rising. There is a very tricky gate on the left bank as you go from fields to coniferous wood. The combination of unstable, tilted date and barbed wire meant I wimped out at that point. Couldn't open the gate or safely (for waders) climb over. Otherwise a very pretty beat with some very good habitat.

First outing of the season and what a great day it was. Started about 9am, temp was at 10c and rising, light wind and overcast. Water at a good height and running clear. Started off with upstream nymphs, cased caddis on point and small ptn on dropper and within the first hour I had taken three lovely 12 to 14" feisty fish. A few missed and dropped fish over the next hr or so before a trickle hatch of LDO started to come off. As I was deciding on my next approach, "Bang!" rod doubles over and reel starts to scream as a fish ran hard upstream. As it leaped out the water I could see it was around the 4lb mark. 10 to 15 mins later I finally got it to net and what a lump it was measuring approx 23,24" and in perfect condition. After a short break and to catch my breath I changed over to dry olive pattern and took another 3 lovely fish. As the hatch finished about 1pm I decided to call it a day on a high. Picture of fish sent to Facebook page.

River high and very coloured - looked like Bisto. Practiced some various nymphing techniques but gave up after a while.
Not much hope of catching anything at all. Shame, my last trout outing of the year was a disappointment.

Day two of the Usk reccie and another stunning stretch of water. Fished from car park 3 upstream through the wooded section and there's some fabulous runs and pockets for the speculative dry here and this did result in a 1 pounder (on a CDC & elk) that thought it was 2 pound, or on steroids. Fantastic condition and colours it was. Beautiful woodland on the right bank section up there too, a pleasure just to be there .
Very little rising today but nothing substantial hatching though and what was rising looked they where on needle fly and the flat glide immediately down from the car parking area (great hardstanding here BTW) had a lot of fish sipping away but after a couple of fish, eventually, to a tiny F fly I gave in and headed off away upstream.
Lot's more to do here and seems fantastic value for money to me and one thing that did strike me was the clarity of the water (some of the long pools and runs are hugely deep!) and also the sparklingly clean condition of the river bed in many places. It was a joy to be standing in the river casting a long line when its like this. The same applies to Pantyscallog too and turning over the stones reveals very large numbers of tiny olive nymphs (next years adults ?) and cased caddis/stone clingers, some pretty big ones too.
Can't wait to explore more and hopefully with a hatch on too. Its going to be fun, lots of fun.
Thanks WUF

No fish seen nor caught, nice location. I chanced upon a canoeist putting in at parking spot 2 despite river not at allowable level.
