Great to be back on the river, and a lovely day as well. The water was high-ish but clear and falling. Looked good. I started at about 1pm, using nymphs. Nothing till 2.45, and then caught two and lost a third. Finished at 4pm. No rises visible at all. Until next time!

Fished on nymph's from 10.30am till 3pm beautiful stretch of water neither caught or had a bit which on the day was surprising as water was dropping and fairly clear. Saw no fish rise but after all said had a great few hrs and will return to this beat as soon as weather/water permits

This was my first time fishing this beat and I have to say the water is lovely! It has a good variety of riffles, runs, pools, glides and dry flats. With that said it was an incredibly difficult day! I covered a lot of water and nothing seemed to be feeding. A few olives were the only thing I saw in terms of a hatch and nothing came up for those. With the temps being quite mild I was expecting to have a bit more action and at least see a few fish rising. I started fishing at 9.30am and decided to call it a day at around 2pm when my gut feelings told me that it wasn’t going to get any better. I did however manage to get two nice fish in the net using heavy nymphs on a French leader. The first fish was around 16 inches and the Second was around 18.5 inches (but very lean). Both were returned and swam off strong. Wading can be pretty challenging in places as there is a lot of slippery bedrock shelves, so it’s definitely not for the faint hearted. Overall I’m pretty happy with today considering the trout season has only just started and I will definitely be back in the warmer months.

First time on the beat. It’s a beautiful setting and a wide variety of water, including pocket water-style riffles, gutters and occasional glides. The Usk had received much needed rain in the preceding days, causing a couple of sharp lifts that has cleared out quite a bit of the algae. The water had good clarity and height (0.34 on the Trallong gauge, dropping 4cm over the day). Despite that, there was very little fish activity, with sporadic hatches only resulting in occasional rises. I connected with a couple of brownies, one of which broke my tippet, but didn’t land either. The wading is tricky in places, with undulating bedrock and sharp drop-offs, so I was glad to have my wading stick. There is quite a lot of bracken lining the banks, which affects access to the river and the back cast in places. It needs a good strim before it becomes a problem.

A very slow 2.5 hour evening session despite some extra water. Fished the lower part by the house, great water but they weren't really having it. Few rises seen. A couple of fish 12 - 13 inch landed and a few better ones lost on streamers/nymphs. Last evening of the year for me, it is getting decidedly autumnal.

I saw the water was up, so thought I'd have a go. No surface activity at all, but caught four on nymphs as the clouds gathered, including one of 2¾lbs.
