Had a good hard days fishing small flies good pull on tail end of chapel did not attach to small cascade.

First time to this beat, so approached with caution, not knowing where the deep gullys are. Fly fished using no10 shrimp pattern: 2 brownies, both returned. Will fish this stretch for winter greyling, to learn more about the deep gullys for an attack on the river next year.

2 Trout

Two fish from the Chapel Catch. 8lbs Hen from the lower Chapel, 20 lbs Hen from the Gutter below the Cemetery.
Both fish caught on a size 8 Logie tied on a single hook. Considering the time of the year, these fish were in good condition, viz. not very coloured. The latter fish, took all my line and about 50 yds of backing. Lovely day until the wind arrived and covered the river with leaves. More rain please S.M.S.

2 Salmon

It's difficult to know how to phrase a catch return after catching 70 fish. River level was 9" on the Llanstephan gauge, weather was mild with cloud. Good conditions in other words.
Starting at noon at the very top of the beat grayling were present in ones and twos in every pocket down to the start of the deeper pools level with the gate. At which point there were around in greater number to say the least. Five fish in about seven casts represented the busiest period.
I fished a three fly set up; two soft hackle spiders with something weighted on the point. Most fish took the droppers in the shallower water, less so in the deeper runs where a weighted GRHE was taken. A size 14 orange spider accounted for most of the fish but in all honesty a bare hook would have caught today. I was still catching at 7.30 when I called it a day (and a remarkable one at that).
Apart from two 12" inch fish all grayling were 6-8". Trout were 6 and10". 'Others' were salmon parr.

saw one fish in chapel pool but could not connect. Was a drop of water on this time from last visit small flies again

Well another fish lost this morning on the upper section of the beat. Didn't see any fish moving, very quite on a perfect looking river !

Down to 1ft 6 inches now and a reasonable colour - but still NTR!

River had clear nicely today, Had a good take in the orchard which didn't come to anything and that was my lot.
