Fished 8am-1pm.
A very enjoyable morning surrounded by abundant fly life, including some May flies, once the day warmed up a bit and splashing salmon. Very few rising fish.
Just above 0.8 on the Erwood gauge and falling. Carrying some colour.
First time on this beat and there is certainly a lot of water to cover. With Water temperatures in the mid 16’s I focused on the faster water. 5 trout to the net all on nymphs. Many bumped which at least kept the concentration up. Excitingly also landed 4 Shad. They have some real power. The largest getting on 3lbs and put up an incredible fight on my 3wt nymph rod.
Fishing Passport Note: Please remember that Shad are a protected species, therefore you cannot specifically target them and if you come across a shoal, you should look at moving to another pool.

If shad were salmon I'd be doing well the last few days! Fished down through the orchard this evening no signs on salmon but plenty of shad and trout.

A friend suggested that I visit the beat and even though the water was very low, I had a very enjoyable days fishing. Sadly I didn't make contact with a salmon but I did see one very reasonable size fish leap when I was making my way down Chapel Catch.
Reasonable conditions, not too hot, overcast (a few small showers), water had a very slight bit of colour in it but plenty clear enough, water on the low side but I will return once we have had some rain!
One good size brown trout and two small chub took my fly, all quickly and safely returned. Lovely beat and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't been.

Water low and gin clear 1' on guage. Spinning in Llangoed pool, fly the rest. One large splash at head of Llangoed could have been a salmon. No fish seen. Very bright and hot day. Salmon fishing waste of time really but long way to travel from Kent. Enjoyed the day very much and impressed with the fishery.

Well, my day started with a flat tyre followed by a fly box falling into the river and being washed away, then a leak in my waders! The fish also were disinclined to cooperate the only decent one caught was by a friendly otter who had a mammoth battle with a 2lb brownie. He eventually lost out and the fish escaped. The otter has my sympathy! A beautiful beat but I couldn't work out how to fish it. The gullies between the rock are quite deep and fast and even my weighted bugs were swept away too quickly I think. No fish rising and not much fly life. I think we're still not quite 'awake'.

Great day on the river but sadly no salmon. My beginners luck didn’t hold. Beautiful water and mostly sunny day. Although I did manage to catch a 1lb trout on a small cascade fly. Met a fellow angler on the bank who gave me some good advice and pointed me in the right direction - Thank you Charles.
