Second visit to this beat and much more water then last year. Access at top better then bottom which still needs addressing.
No joy with jig/nymphs at bottom fast water and only a couple of pulls. Weather kept changing which didn't help but managed only one trout to the net with trad/wet fly. Trout came on the feed when olives were coming off. Seeing an Otter for the fist time was the highlight of the day. Still a beat I would come back to.

1 Trout

No fish caught but one lost. Saw a few good sized trout. Water low and very clear. Enjoyed the beat.

Arrived on the beat at 14:00. Hot, with clear blue skies but a stiffish wind. A little rain over the weekend freshened up the river - but not enough to shift the gauge at Brecon. No fly activity so fished a lightly beaded olive nymph at the top of the beat. Missed a couple of takes but had one beautifully marked WBT of around 1lb.

Caught a fleeting glimpse of a black stoat-like creature on the opposite bank. I am almost certain it was a mink. Are they found on the Usk??

There was a bit of a downstream breeze blowing, but the water looked perfect - falling from rain the day before and still a hint of colour in it. Not much rising, despite a large hatch of what looked like very edible flies around 4pm. I found plenty of small fish on nymphs, including two at the same time on my lead fly and dropper, and one of around 1lb.

Bright & sunny with brisk downstream breeze. No significant hatch

4 brown trout taken around 5pm on dry fly.

River freshened by recent rains. Overcast and muggy initially but no significant fly hatch. Fished PTN on the crease of the faster water. Heavy rain from 16:00, which stopped play!

Grabbed a couple of hours late morning, consistent rises throughout and generated interest with the sixth pattern attempt. The population of fish in the Wye and Usk does seem very healthy at the moment which is encouraging

The river was low and clear. Lots of sand martins feeding but few trout moving. At dusk and into darkness more trout active with plenty of knocks and tugs. 5 trout caught, two fish of 11/2 to 2lb range and 3 of 8”. 1 fish retained to eat.
