Not a great start to the day. Two anglers had left their landing nets hanging up to dry at base camp so we had to drive back again. Again, swims that had produced previously were barren but we eventually caught a few barbel each.
Having been washed off the Creel at the start of the week it was frustrating to find that rebooking has to be before December 31, which is not easy as the Creel is booked most days. Rebooking by the end of the season March 15 would be fairer. On a non WYeUsk stretch a wash off rebooking is allowed for the following year. Think we might be spending more of our money with them in future.

Fished a new swim which proved to be productive in high water. Caught using just a hair rigged single pellet. Lost a few more to a snag. Fished there again later in the week an not a single bite. Location is key.

Fish were not at home in the usual hotspots. Water had dropped about 4 foot, leaving the banks very slippery and making it dangerous to fish some swims. Found a few feeding fish late afternoon after losing more tackle.

River still rising making life a little difficult with floating debris but still managed to catch from various swims on meet and pellet

River high, coloured and rose by 2 foot in the evening. Lots of weed and debris coming down. 4 anglers caught 19 barbel between them but no chub ! Most fish weighed between 5 to 7lb. Mainly pellet fished on the edge of the crease.

First time on Wye and what an experience. Stayed in the white lion in Ross which we would recommend. The river was up and coloured (and rising slightly). Very blustery, but very pleasant day until the rain came in around 5pm.
Fished all day and caught throughout. Was tough holding bottom and casting to the far bank wasn’t really possible. But found the creases and the fish followed. All fought like tanks. 4 over 8lb, biggest 8.14. Successful baits halibut pellet, meat and boilies wrapped in paste. Highly enjoyable day on a stunning, well managed piece of river. My brother was certainly very pleased with his birthday present! Can’t wait to head back to try another beat.

Nigh on impossible fishing conditions. River came up 1.2m in a day! Lots of debris (including what looked like whole trees) coming down the river made it hard to keep a line in the water. Weights, feeders and hooklinks covered in weed after 10 minutes or so. Bad timing sadly. I nicked a barbel after an hour and called it a day!
Will be back as it's a beautiful beat

River level increased further overnight. Fished down the bottom end of the beat, very pacy and plenty of weed coming through. Could only hold when ledgering on the near side margin. All 4 fish came from that line on pellet.

A complete change in conditions with river rising rapidly, although it did level out in the late evening. The large clumps of weed made it difficult and prevented holding position further out than the very inside line. However, not a complete write-off with 1 barbel of 8.13, 3 chub and 4 little others to show for our efforts.
