1 grayling caught on Czech nymph. About 20 cms long. In good condition. Returned carefully to the water. Good fly life but little evidence of fish. Very few rises seen. Impossible to tempt those fish that were rising with dry fly.

Really good piece of river but water levels were very low in my opinion. As for the fishing really disappointing on the trout side, NO fish in sight, did not manage to see a single trout, no even small trout fleeing or fish moving, nothing ... it was surreal, we managed to see Graylings in some pools but absolutely ZERO trouts. We witnessed a big hatch of sedges but despite this we saw no trouts whatsoever - we came from the Irfon the previous day with same sort of levels but we saw and catch few trouts - it looked like the all population of trouts disappeared from this beat

Tough day, after high hopes for the beat. Only managed two fish between us, and not even a fish seen. No hatch occurred. Can only presume that the fish were shoaled up somewhere, perhaps in the lower part of beat. but then again perhaps that's just graying!

Suitably fueled and insulated by “the Big Breakfast” at The Halt Cafe, we met up with Frank Williams at Doldowlod for a days tuition in the art of Grayling fishing. Conditions were surprisingly good, the river being relatively clear and not too high. This day was more about learning new techniques than catching bucket loads of fish. Frank is a patient and encouraging tutor with an engaging manner. He's a good investment. You never stop learning at this game which is why it never loses it’s fascination.
Six fish caught, five Grayling and one out of season Brown Trout. The best, a 1lb 4oz Grayling on the dry, the others on weighted nymphs. All fish returned.

First visit to this beat and water gin clear and looked too low for Salmon. A couple of good grayling amongst some heavy leaf fall.
