8 Barbel 10 or so chub. Lucky stone again. Noticeably less chub, which gave the barbel a chance. Had some lovely fish one pushing 10lb.
Fish came steadily during the day. All but one of barbel on feeder with ground bait and double 8mm pellet. other on trotted meat. They were quite cute and didn’t want big baits. Had to fish lighter than I would have liked in order to get bites. Canoeists back in force which I think effected such a shallow swim. River gin clear and low.

A few weeks off 70 and the "Fownhope yomp" dosen't get any easier!!.Arrived to find the river was low but with overcast skies expectations were reasonable. Very slow through the day, just three Chub between us although one was a fine five pounder. The rest of the fish came in two bursts from 17:00hrs. to 21:30hrs. The Chub 3 to 5 lbs., the Barbel four in the 4 to 6 lbs. bracket and one beauty of 9lb. 13oz. , a new pb for the "Silver Fox". Chub to legered meat and trotted bread flake, all the Barbel and the 5lb. Chub to legered pellet.

This was the first time that we had fished this stretch and despite having high hopes and an early 7am start the fishing was extremely tough going. I had read about the 'Lucky Stone' and having travelled with too much gear it was really not an option for us this time. We settled in to the swim directly next to the Fishing Hut. The river was very low, coloured and not looking like ideal conditions.
The 2 small Chub were caught with feeder tactics and a mix of corn and pellets and thats about as good as it was ever going to get with continued dog owners allowing their dogs to jump in to the river and a steady stream of noisy canoeists bumping along the bottom.
We will be back though to try the other, more prolific swims but will try and plan a time when there is a bit more water and less activity!

6 decent chub, all over 4lb and 1 barbel of about 5lb. River very low, without much flow. Moved twice to find fish, most of which were caught during the evening on the last peg in the first field below the wood.

Day 3 of 3. Even better than Day 2 at Strangford! Beautiful day, mainly overcast with a light breeze. River the lowest we've known (0.49m on Mordiford gauge). Fished the lucky stone swim and with the very low water it was much more comfortable than on some occasions. We could even fish from the flat river bed just above the main part of the swim and attack the favoured spot from above. This swim tends to fish well all day and so it was today with a couple of barbel early on and then a load of chub queueing up to take the pellets. The day was rounded off nicely with 6 barbel from 4pm til 6pm when we had to leave. The highlights were a 9 pound freshwater submarine (new PB) and his slightly smaller brother at 8 and a half. Fownhope delivers again!
Many many thanks to WUF - you guys do a wonderful job for us mad anglers. And thanks also to the owners.

Beautiful day. The river was looking healthy and flowing well with plenty of wildlife and fish rising and jumping. Fish were biting all day, sifting out the Barbel from the Chub, which were non-stop, was the challenge. All the Chub were in the 2 - 4lb bracket and in good condition save for one which looked like it had a problem with one eye. The Barbel all upwards of 8lb, the bigest 10lb 4oz, all healthy looking fish that put up a characteristic Wye Barbel fight. The only irritation were inconsiderate padlle boarders some of whom passed by going downstream and then returned upstream only to get off their boards and wade upstream through the faster flowing water shouting and hollering showing a lack of consideration for anglers. They didn't seem to put the fish off for long though.

Cracking day on the UK's premier coarse fishing river. Chub to 4.5Ib and a PB barbel of 8Ib 2oz, well chuffed. Weather was perfect and so was the fishing!
