Our first visit to a WUF venue been wanting to go for a long time and it didn't disappoint. Great mornings fishing before weeks rain raised the level by several feet in few hours and debris coming down river made things difficult. Before that we each managed 5 barbel each and a few chub. We fished in field below the woods.

First time on this beat which has ample parking and a flat walk to the river, until you want to fish downstream that is! Our eldest member is in his 70s but a regular golfer and he found the hill tough but manageable. He says he would return but wouldn't tackle the wood again due to the clamber down to the swims - I am NOT a mountain goat - even though he brought a rope.

Conditions wise, it was overcast with an almost warm breeze but the water was very clear. Across the day we fished the 3 swims in the wood, the bottom swim in the meadow and 3 swims above the hut on pellet, GB feeder or rolling baits and a variety of hook baits. Our only return was 4 chub, all in the wood.

First trip to the Wye and what a great experience. We all caught Barbel in what were perfect conditions - overcast and a bit of colour in the water.
Fished above the woods in the morning with only one Barbel being caught so tough going with the rocky bottom being a bit of a tackle graveyard!
We all braved the hill late morning and were rewarded with much better fishing below the woods. Limited swims but all 3 swims fished produced on the feeder & float. Barbel up to 9lb and Chub to 3.5 lb throughout the afternoon. Baits used were meat & various boilies. Both caught equally well. A great days fishing on a beautiful stretch.
